Model and use

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

The 4K8 integrates a production panel, multiview, audio mixing, and program recording. SDI inputs include conversion and resynchronization; check each source and destination before rehearsal.

The base 4K8 supports optional internal storage; the 4K8 2TB SKU includes installed memory. Neither name means HD8 ISO: isolated source recording with the 4K8 requires an external recorder system.

Video, audio, and control

Inputs and outputs: 8 12G-SDI inputs and 10 AUX outputs serve separate destinations. Map program, AUX, and multiview separately; a picture on one screen does not establish other routes.
Recording: HD program records in H.264 and UHD in H.265 HEVC, with AAC audio. Storage can be USB-C media or installed, recognized M.2 memory.
USB and control: USB webcam output is HD, up to 1080p; selecting UHD program does not make it UHD. Software Control provides switching, audio, graphics, and compatible camera setup.

What to prepare

List sources, production format, and the signal needed by each screen, recorder, and stream. Prepare audio, multiview, and storage for the expected duration.

Basic preparation

Identify 4K8 or 4K8 2TB, firmware, and Software Control version. Prepare power and multiview before connecting sources.
Set the production format and check each SDI input in multiview. Label sources and rehearse Preview, Program, and transitions.
Assign program and AUX for each destination. Check every output at its receiver; multiview does not establish what each output carries.
Prepare the audio mix and listen to program output. Check synchronization and keep talkback separate from audio intended for the audience.
For a compatible Blackmagic Studio Camera, also check SDI program return from switcher to camera SDI input; that path carries control, tally, and talkback.
Select external storage or internal media actually installed. Test program recording and playback with sound; prepare external recorders for isolated sources.

Does the 4K8 record every camera like the HD8 ISO?

The built-in recorder records program. AUX outputs allow external source recording to be designed; each recorder needs signal, media, and configuration.

Define required isolated sources and synchronization and editing needs. Check system files; for the 4K8, do not assume the ISO model’s automatic project workflow.

Why is there camera video but no control?

Switcher input video and control return are separate paths. Check compatible camera model and SDI return to its input.

Check camera identification, versions, and settings against its documentation. A correct picture does not establish the control channel.

Why is internal storage missing or webcam output not UHD?

Identify SKU and installed media first. Internal storage is optional on the base model; it does not mean the connected computer’s disk.

USB webcam has its own HD limit. For a UHD destination, prepare a suitable video output and receiver, then check the received format.

Limits and precautions

Back up configuration and files before updating or formatting. Internal storage installation requires exact system documentation and procedures.

Test recording and streaming separately. A network connection or recognized drive does not establish service continuity or file integrity.

For an output excluding selected graphics, define the layers to exclude and check the destination during rehearsal.
