Barco Encore3: sources, screens, and resources

Ask GLMedia about rental options for multiscreen presentations. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Model and scope

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

Barco Encore3 is an image processor and screen management system for events. It composes sources into screen destinations, prepares scenes, and transitions from Preview to Program.

The documented standard configuration provides 16 inputs and 8 4K60 outputs. Custom configurations exist: check actual cards and resources before assigning screens, auxiliaries, and monitoring. Do not count every connector as an independent simultaneous input.

Inputs, destinations, and control

Video and cards
Configuration depends on Event Master Gen2 cards with HDMI, DisplayPort, or SDI according to the module. Check the card, connector, and format; HDCP also depends on installed cards.
Screens and monitoring
Up to 8 program outputs in the documented configuration, for single screens or combined surfaces. Multiviewer can be a source routed to outputs or layers: include it in routing and resource planning.
Control and synchronization
Event Master Toolset, Event Master controllers, and WebUI over Ethernet. Plan system native rate and genlock reference together with sources and receivers.

What to prepare

Sources, formats, and receivers; a pixel map and destinations, even if preliminary. Identify cards and chassis, and check resources before fixing layers or transitions.

Control computer, network, and compatible firmware, Toolset, and unit operating system versions. A backup ShowFile including required stills and a rehearsed restore process.

Basic preparation

  1. Record installed cards, connections, and versions. Compare firmware, Toolset, and operating system with the chosen release notes before updating.
  2. Prepare the network plan and verify that Toolset has the unit’s actual IP. Check link and communication before programming.
  3. Set system native rate and reference before building the show. Check source format, EDID, and expected receiver signal.
  4. Create inputs and destinations, inspect the resource indicator, and assign monitoring. Test an output pattern before loading the composition.
  5. Rehearse scenes, transitions, and recovery. Save a ShowFile and choose whether to include all stills; verify that the backup matches the active show.

Three technical questions

Why can’t I add a screen when connectors are still free?

Check the per-unit screen resource indicator in Configuration. The manual states that a full indicator prevents additional destinations until resources are edited or freed.

Compare existing destinations, cards, and monitoring routing. A free connector does not establish available resources for any composition.

What should I check if Toolset cannot communicate with the unit?

Compare the unit IP and entered IP, Ethernet cable, and link indicators. For direct connection, verify a compatible static addressing plan for computer and unit.

If the front panel also does not respond, check whether Toolset has locked it. Do not start with a factory reset: it can change networking and show configuration.

What should I check for flickering or unstable video?

Record source, card, format, EDID, and versions. Check external connections and test the source on another receiver in a controlled rehearsal to separate source and path.

Check temperature diagnostics and exact firmware release notes. A forum comment does not establish a general Mac fault or a beta fix. Cards must not be removed or reseated during operation.

Limits and precautions

Input/output cards are not hot-swappable. Any intervention requires manufacturer procedures and competent personnel; do not handle cards during the show.

Back up before resetting or updating. Linked chassis expand a system but do not by themselves establish an operational backup path.

For firmware 10.3.0.5089, Barco specifies Toolset 10.3.0.4339 or later and Encore3 operating system 0.0.25 or later. Check the full combination and component release notes.
