Barco ImagePRO-4K

Barco ImagePRO-4K: format conversion and output setup

Assess scaling, conversion, and signal distribution to connect event sources and destinations with an agreed format and staged checks.

Model and application

ImagePRO-4K is a video processor; it does not replace LED sending and receiving cards. Identify installed cards, version, and mode before defining connections and functions. Other ImagePRO generations require their own documentation.

Signal and optics

Inputs and outputs
The documented Tri-Combo configuration includes HDMI, DisplayPort, and SDI. Format, color, and content-protection capabilities depend on connector and installed card.
Processing
Scaling and conversion adapt signals to destinations within documented limits. A 4K label does not guarantee every resolution, frame-rate, and bit-depth combination.
Operation
Prepare source and output assignments, framing, and patterns for each destination; a preset validates neither physical connection nor downstream equipment.

System preparation

  1. Record model, cards, source, destination, complete format, and signal path; preserve initial settings.
  2. Agree destination resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio, and framing before conversion settings.
  3. Test output pattern and source separately; add adapters and extenders individually.
  4. Rehearse source selection and return to agreed settings; save clearly identified working configurations.

Planning questions

When should we include it in an event system?

When sources need adapting or scaling for destinations with different requirements, assess whether its cards and modes support the path. We can prepare equipment, cabling, configuration, and operation or complete only the required segment. Start comparing alternatives with date, venue, and a provisional source and screen list.

Will an adapter make any signal work?

Matching connectors are insufficient. Compare conversion direction, format, frame rate, color, protection, and every device’s capacity. If output and destination differ, assess another documented port or compatible conversion; test the adapter within the actual chain.

Why does the source work directly but fail through the system?

Preserve the direct test and compare detected input, configured output, and the destination’s supported format. Try a pattern on the selected output: if it arrives, investigate source and processing; otherwise check output and downstream path. Add each segment separately to locate where the result changes.

Is changing EDID the same as changing output format?

They are different: EDID tells the source which input formats it can send; output configuration must match the destination. EDID does not apply to SDI. Record both ends and check received format before changing advanced values; do not begin with a full reset.

How do we check an image that fills the screen but looks distorted?

Compare a circle, border marks, and text with the agreed area. Check aspect ratio, size, crop, and output before altering content by trial and error. For a differently shaped destination, assess margins, approved cropping, or custom design; scaling adds no source detail.

Do two outputs or a distributor provide full backup?

Define which failure backup must cover and which elements paths share. Distributing the same signal may preserve a single failure point. We can assess alternative routes and a rehearsed change procedure, including destination synchronization where required; connector count does not guarantee continuity.

Use and safety

Save configuration before changes; identify card and documentation before intervention. Cards are not hot-swappable.

Prepare rack mounting, power, and ventilation under the manual with competent personnel. Do not interrupt the live show for testing.
