Videohub 40x40 12G: sources, destinations, and formats

Ask GLMedia about rental options for live switching and image distribution. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Model and use

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

Videohub 40x40 12G is a routing matrix: it selects which input reaches each output. A source can feed several destinations; transitions and compositions require the production equipment for that task.

The model supports different signal standards simultaneously. This does not mean it converts each source to a receiver’s format or synchronizes sources together.

Video, audio, and control

Routing
40 inputs and 40 12G-SDI outputs. Label both ends: camera, program, or playback as source; monitor, switcher, or recorder as destination.
Signal
Output reclocking, without input resynchronization. The receiver must support the selected source format; also check embedded audio.
Control
Front panel buttons, knob, and preview display; external Ethernet control and software configuration. Select the correct router before changing a crosspoint.

What to prepare

Prepare a source/destination table, formats, and audio paths. Identify on-air outputs and routes available for rehearsal.

Start with a partial equipment list. We can map routing and identify conversion or synchronization needs before the final plan.

Basic preparation

  1. Confirm model, firmware, and control software. Preserve the installation crosspoint table and labels.
  2. Check a source on a compatible receiver and connect it to the assigned input. Use suitable cable for signal and distance.
  3. Select the intended destination first, then its source using the chosen control. Confirm the picture at that destination.
  4. Check every route with actual format, audio, and destination. Correct router preview does not establish the downstream chain.
  5. Rehearse source changes and receiver recovery before using the route on air. Separate operational routing from configuration or firmware changes.

Three technical questions

Why is there router preview but no monitor picture?

Check output assignment, cable, and receiver-supported format. A UHD source does not become HD by passing through the router.

If another format is needed, prepare suitable conversion and verify its output before revisiting the crosspoint.

Do reference or reclocking guarantee a clean switch?

This model’s specifications list no input resynchronization. Reclocking and reference are not a frame synchronizer.

For visible live changes, rehearse sources and receiver or transition in the production system prepared for that task. Do not assume CleanSwitch functions.

Why can I route but not change settings?

Crosspoint control and configuration are different functions. Identify application, version, connection, and selected router.

Preserve settings and check version documentation before updating or restarting. A ping reply does not establish access to every administration function.

Limits and precautions

Label critical outputs and agree which routes may change during operation. A crosspoint change affects its selected destination.

Do not disconnect or update equipment during an event to try a forum recipe. Prepare version changes and recovery with saved configuration.

Prepare cooling, rack support, and power for the equipment. Dual power supplies require an appropriate system power design for redundancy.
