Brompton Tessera S4
Brompton Tessera S4: preparing an existing LED screen
Plan presentations, video, and source changes around a defined canvas and signal path for the event screen.
Model and application
S4 is a Tessera processor with DVI-D input and 4 Gigabit LED outputs. Its low-latency operation excludes scaling, deinterlacing, and frame-rate conversion; prepare the format at the source or in a compatible upstream device.
Signal and optics
- Input
- DVI-D; documentation specifies up to 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz. An adapter’s connector shape does not establish compatible timing or color.
- Panels
- Requires Tessera-compatible panels and their Fixture Pack. Confirm model, receiver, versions, and the existing system project.
- Control
- Management network and panel outputs serve different functions. DisplayPort supports the local interface, not show video input.
System preparation
- Preserve project, versions, and panel association before changing the installation.
- Identify input, source, format, and converters; prepare content for the canvas without assuming internal scaling.
- Compare pattern, physical topology, and each panel’s placement; record position changes.
- Rehearse synchronization and transitions through the full chain; keep working settings.
Planning questions
Can we use S4 with an existing screen?
We can assess integration using the panel model, receiver, project, and versions. Check Tessera compatibility and required modes; an Ethernet connection does not establish compatibility with every LED screen. If information is missing, start by identifying the system and assess processing, signal, or operating services.
How do we fill the screen when the source has another size?
S4 does not scale in its operating mode. Assess content prepared for the canvas or a compatible upstream scaler. Compare margins and cropping with design to preserve proportions; moving panels within a project does not replace that processing.
Can mapping fix an offset between screen areas?
First distinguish incorrect panel placement from a time offset. A static pattern checks mapping and association; motion tests and the full signal path help assess timing. For combined processors, the manufacturer requires synchronized sources and matched delays. Plan adjustments for the exact system outside the show.
Must we redraw everything after moving panels?
Save the project and compare which units and connections changed. Panel association must match the physical installation; do not assume the previous topology is correct merely because everything is connected. An identified zone check helps plan reassociation without erasing existing work by trial and error.
Should we update or reset to make panels appear?
First check panel type, Fixture Pack, and versions. Factory reset can delete projects and additional packs; updates also have compatibility prerequisites. Prepare documented work with recovery instead of using reset as live-show diagnosis.
What can we request to rent or supplement the system?
Send date, venue, use, approximate screen, and the processor or panels you already have. We can assess suitable equipment rental or purchase, signal conversion, configuration, and operation. If S4 lacks a required feature, compare another compatible chain or processor before quoting.
Checks by symptom
| Static image in the wrong position | Compare project, association, and actual panel placement. |
|---|---|
| Motion out of sync across systems | Compare source, reference, modes, and every processor’s delay. |
| Source has no picture | Compare DVI, format, and converters; separate input signal from panel connection. |
Use and safety
Preserve projects and packs before reset, upgrade, or reassociation. Confirm version prerequisites in official documentation.
Prepare rack, ventilation, power, and screen mounting under the exact system’s documentation.
