Brompton Tessera S8

Brompton Tessera S8: signal, capacity and redundancy

Ask GLMedia about rental options for an LED screen system. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Purpose and covered system

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

Tessera S8 processes LED displays with compatible Brompton receiving hardware. It supports canvas preparation, tile association and image adjustment for events, installations and camera workflows.

Identify the S8, tile model and revision, and Fixture Pack. Sharing processing features with SX40 does not imply the same capacity or distribution system.

Video, data and control

Video
HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI with Thru connections; the local interface monitor uses DisplayPort and USB peripherals. Local DisplayPort is not a content input.
LED outputs
Eight 1G EtherCON ports carry Tessera data to compatible tiles. Management Ethernet ports provide control and do not replace these outputs.
Synchronization and control
Bi-level/tri-level reference with Thru, DMX In/Thru and network control through Tessera Remote. Blackout and Freeze are on the front panel.

Requirements

A supported video source, identified tiles with suitable receiving hardware and Fixture Pack, pixel map, Gigabit Cat5e or better cabling, and power. Local operation needs a DisplayPort monitor, keyboard and mouse; remote control needs a computer and management network.

Define ports and paths for the required frame rate, bit depth and redundancy. Nominal output loading is 525,000 pixels at 60 Hz and 8 bits per color; higher bit depth or frame rate reduces available loading.

Basic preparation

  1. Save the current project and record processor and tile versions before changing the configuration.
  2. Connect the local interface or Tessera Remote through the management network. Confirm Video In and the selected input; check Blackout and Freeze when the input is valid but the picture is absent or not moving.
  3. Associate the tiles with the processor and check canvas position and orientation using a pattern. Distinguish the logical map from cabling order.
  4. Prepare input area, scaling and framing for actual content. Compare output loading and mode in the project; validating the input does not validate all distribution.
  5. If using closed-loop redundancy, prepare and test it before the event. Enabling or disabling the mode briefly blacks out video; do not use it as an improvised live test.

Three technical questions

Does accepting a 4K source mean I can output that entire image to the tiles?

No. Input and output loading have different limits. A large source can be scaled or framed within the project, but each output must remain within its capacity for that mode.

The official data sheet specifies 4K60 input and eight 1G outputs. Nominal per-port capacity at 8 bits and 60 Hz does not mean eight 4K video outputs. A high frame rate does not also permit maximum resolution.

Video is valid, but part of the wall is black or frozen. What should I compare?

Separate the path: Video In confirms a valid input; Tessera Out indicates tile connectivity. Also check Blackout, Freeze, association and canvas placement.

Compare a pattern with actual content. If part of a path fails, record the port, tile and timing before changing one variable. An error counter or forum case alone does not identify the failed component.

Will a redundant loop keep the wall running if the S8 fails?

The loop returns from the last tile to another port on the same processor. It protects the data path under its stated conditions; it does not add another working processor. A port pair has the capacity of one port, so redundancy uses capacity.

The documentation consulted reserves processor redundancy for SX40. Do not promise automatic switching between two S8 units or copy XD diagrams. Define and test a specific recovery plan.

Limits and precautions

Maintain ventilation and an ambient temperature of 0–40 °C. The data sheet specifies 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz; check the unit label and supply.

The SDI input supports 2SI; SQ is unsupported in the S8 documentation. A matching connector does not justify copying another processor configuration.

HDMI Thru is intended for confidence monitoring; the manual recommends upstream distribution for critical paths. Do not start troubleshooting with Reset: factory restoration deletes projects and Fixture Packs not included in base firmware.

Before planning software changes, check hardware compatibility. The consulted release notes require software 3.4 or later for S8 units whose serial number starts with 02; this is not an instruction to update during an event.
