Decimator 12G-CROSS
Decimator 12G-CROSS: adapt signals using known formats
Resolve a source visible on one monitor but rejected by the next device. Evaluate HDMI/SDI conversion, format, audio, and chain testing with GLMedia.
Model and application
12G-CROSS provides HDMI/SDI conversion, scaling, and frame-rate conversion. It is not a camera switcher or HDCP remover. Identify firmware; the consulted manual is version 1.4.
Connections and limits
- Inputs and outputs
- Select HDMI or SDI source and destination. Outputs can take direct input or Scaler; choosing a scaled format is insufficient if the output still takes the direct source.
- Conversion
- Documented formats reach 2160p60 depending on interface. Check resolution, rate, interlacing, SDI level, and reference; a 12G connector does not guarantee every combination.
- Audio and control
- Audio-pair remapping and HDMI output type with or without audio. USB is for control/updates, not webcam capture. Use specified power and suitable ventilation.
Preparation and troubleshooting
- Log input status, output source, and target format. Preserve useful settings and test known cables/receivers before changing several variables.
- For conversion, choose Scaler source, supported format, and the route to the relevant output. Check aspect and audio; DVI does not deliver HDMI audio.
- Check picture, motion, text, color, and channels at the final receiver. The manual says to wait for the save S to disappear before powering down after changes.
Show use and alternatives
We can study adapting HDMI presentations or SDI program to an event switcher, recorder, or display. Scope includes format review, conversion, cabling, setup, and destination testing.
If setting the source to a common format is sufficient, compare avoiding extra conversion. For several mixes or IP transport, study other equipment. A status photo and route description are enough to start.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the destination still receive the original format?
Check SDI OUT SOURCE or HDMI OUT SOURCE. For conversion, the output must select Scaler; also define the input feeding that Scaler.
Does frame-rate conversion guarantee identical movement?
No. Evaluate actual content, particularly movement and text. Format compatibility alone does not establish acceptable show image quality.
Can it remove HDCP to record protected content?
That function is not offered. Identify protection and rights and prepare an authorized source and route; the converter is not a universal solution.
Why is there HDMI picture without audio?
Check HDMI versus DVI output type, pair assignments, and source audio. Listen at the receiver; changing video source alone does not validate audio channels.
Does a black picture prove the converter has failed?
No. Compare input status, routing, output format, reference, and receiver. An internal pattern, where supported by firmware, helps isolate the destination without proving the original source works.
Can I copy settings from another Decimator?
Not without identifying model and version. MD-HX, MD-CROSS, and 12G-CROSS differ; save current settings and consult the exact manual.
