Disguise d3 2x4pro: 4K output, capture limits and signal checks

Ask GLMedia about rental options for content playback and presentations. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Model and role

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

The d3/Disguise 2x4pro is a legacy media server for show design, sequencing and playback. It is a specific model, distinct from 4x2pro and 2x2plus. Installed VFC cards, capture configuration and software version determine the usable signal path.

Connections and limits

Show outputs
2 VFC slots. DisplayPort 1.2 cards support up to 4096×2160 at 60 Hz over SST. Quad-DVI and Quad-SDI provide 4 outputs per card within their own format limits; HDMI is another documented option. Identify the fitted card before choosing cables. VFC outputs include EDID management.
Live capture
HD-BNC capture: 4 × 1.5G or 2 × 3G inputs. The input guide limits the unit to 1 × 4K or 2 × 1080p60 in its highest-load modes, with no other inputs at the same time. Listed 4K input formats extend to 30 fps, not 60 fps.
Network and synchronization
2 × 1GbE and 2 × 10GbE; BNC Genlock. Define the role of each link and record the source and sync format. Do not infer a configured session from the presence of network cables.
Power and environment
AC 100–240 V, 50–60 Hz; powerCON True1; 500 W peak. 4U, 19-inch rack; operation at 5–35 °C and 5–95% relative humidity, non-condensing. Verify the unit label and electrical design.

What the system needs

Provide a compatible licensed software/OS combination, saved project and media, GUI monitoring, appropriate VFC/capture cables and configured destinations. The hardware is legacy; consult the compatibility matrix before any planned software change.

Use DisplayPort cables validated for DP 1.2, DP 1.2a or 21.6 Gbps where the standard DP outputs are used. Specify conversions by actual input/output format, not connector shape.

The output guide distinguishes DisplayPort, Quad-DVI, Quad-SDI and HDMI VFC cards. Quad-DVI and Quad-SDI provide 4 outputs per card within their own limits; they do not inherit DisplayPort’s 4K capability. Identify the fitted cards before choosing the signal path.

The official compatibility table checked on October 22, 2026 lists the 2x4pro as End of Support, with r32.4.x as its latest supported Designer release; it cannot load the latest release. Preserve the tested project, OS and drivers together before planning changes.

For startup, follow the model guide: connect power, ensure a keyboard, mouse and monitor are connected to the primary graphics output, then use the front power button. A visible operating interface does not demonstrate that show outputs are configured.

Prepare the system

  1. Record the model, VFC and capture-card references, Designer/OS versions and input/output formats. Keep an independent project copy before making changes.
  2. Check the physical output route, destination input, EDID/timing and project assignment. For capture, use the published rear-plate diagram and the format table for the installed configuration.
  3. During rehearsal, test a simple pattern and one source before restoring the complete cue. Then rehearse the heaviest actual media/capture load and the fallback separately. These are proposed checks, not a test of the unit.
  4. Preserve a separate project/media copy. Check Designer and OS against official compatibility: the reviewed table lists 2x4pro as End of Support, up to r32.4.x, and unable to load the latest Designer version as a supported media server.
  5. Connect the operator monitor, keyboard and mouse, then power the unit using the documented startup sequence. Match show destinations to the actual VFC slots and formats.

Operating questions

Does a 4K60 output mean I can capture a 4K60 live source?

No. Output and capture have separate limits. The standard DP output documentation describes 4096 × 2160 at 60 Hz; the capture guide lists 4K input formats only up to 30 fps.

Record the exact live source format and check the installed capture arrangement before connecting. If conversion is needed, verify its output mode and the complete path. An adaptor alone does not change frame rate or bandwidth.

Why do additional inputs disappear when I enable a demanding capture mode?

The guide states that 1 × 4K or 2 × 1080p60 uses the available capture resources and prevents using other video inputs simultaneously. Four physical connectors do not establish four independent feeds at every format.

Save the starting configuration, list each source format and compare the active combination with those limits. In a test window, verify a supported combination before changing cables or proposing additional hardware.

The destination restarted and the image is missing or incorrectly sized. What comes first?

Check the selected destination input, VFC output cable and the timing currently reported by the source and destination. Compare EDID and project assignment with the saved working setup before changing the canvas.

Use a simple pattern with a visible border and substitute one validated compatible cable during rehearsal if needed. Preserve the original settings; do not reinstall the OS, reset the project or open the chassis as a generic display fix.

Power, environment and installation

Keep rack cooling unobstructed, prevent condensation and use suitable grounded power. Have qualified personnel validate the complete distribution and any loop-through chain from actual unit, cable and connector ratings; this guide gives no unit count per AC chain.

The manufacturer prohibits opening or removing the case without instructions from a certified Engineer. Arrange authorized service if diagnosis requires internal access.

Preserve project/media backups and use the documented shutdown procedure. Live capture introduces latency; verify the actual delay in the rehearsal rather than promising zero latency or applying a value from another server.
