Dual DSMs: slides, notes and independent destinations

Model and scope
With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.
Dual DSMs describe two confidence monitors for a presenter. They may show the same picture or different content; the term does not identify a brand, size or model.
This guide uses desktop PowerPoint on Windows as its example. Verify connections and limits for the actual computer, monitors, adapters and distribution equipment.
Video, monitoring and control
- Mirroring
- A splitter repeats one signal. It does not create a slide output and a notes output independently.
- Independent views
- Different content requires separate views at the source, preserved through the path to their destinations. Spare connectors do not establish available graphics capability.
- Presenter content
- Presenter View combines current slide, next slide, notes and timer. It differs from the clean audience slide show.
System requirements
An audience, operator and DSM destination map with intended content. Identify monitors and manuals before choosing formats, supports or power.
A computer and application supporting the required displays, with interfaces and distribution suited to actual formats. Keep audience and notes paths separate.
Basic preparation
- Label source, output and destination. Connect the complete system and identify displays in Windows.
- Use an extended desktop to separate slides and notes. Enable Use Presenter View in PowerPoint and select the slide-show monitor; check where each view appears.
- Inspect every DSM and audience screen at the receiving end. Adjust note readability using actual content; diagonal size alone does not determine legibility.
- Rehearse forward, back, videos and ending the show. PowerPoint may change layout on entering or leaving slide show: also check the final picture.
- Test switching to backup. Two computers open on the same slide are not guaranteed to remain synchronized throughout the event.
Three technical questions
Can a splitter separate slides and notes?
No. It repeats one signal; different views must come from the source. Check how many displays the computer supports with that adapter and configuration.
Why are notes appearing on the audience screen?
Stop public delivery using the planned procedure and check assignments in PowerPoint and Windows. Distinguish clean slides and Presenter View before returning to program.
Check again after cable, adapter or computer changes. Display numbering alone does not establish the physical destination.
Why does one view advance while the backup falls behind?
Check which window receives control and which file is open on each machine. A received command does not confirm matching positions.
Rehearse sequence and recovery. Screen capture, networking and external composition require separate version and latency checks before joining the path.

Limits and precautions
Keep notes off audience output and program recording unless explicitly requested by the event.
Follow exact monitor and support manuals for mounting, power and ventilation. This guide does not assign loads or approve installations.
Define Presenter View timing and stage countdown separately; do not assume identical function or control.
