Stages and drape
4 ft circular stage: footprint and access
Application guide for a fixed circular stage: usable footprint, curved modules, supports, access and project documentation.
Define the circular layout
Ask GLMedia about rental options for your event. The proposal is subject to availability, confirmation of the model and configuration, and the venue’s technical requirements.
The stated size is the outside diameter of a complete circle, not its radius or circumference. Confirm the finished outline, stage height and intended activity on a dimensioned plan. A semicircle, ring or revolving platform requires a different layout.
A compact presentation platform: draw the actual speaker, display or lectern footprint and entry point before selecting it. The full disc is not automatically usable standing space.
Nominal geometry and usable area
- Outside diameter
- 4 ft / 1.2192 m
- Radius
- 2 ft / 0.6096 m
- Nominal disc area
- ≈ 12.57 ft² / 1.17 m²
- Outside circumference
- ≈ 12.57 ft / 3.83 m
The area is a geometric reference, not an occupancy or load rating. Establish usable space after allowing for equipment, protected edges, access and circulation. Confirm loads for the selected decks, supports and venue floor.
Decks, supports and curved edges
Prepare a numbered deck plan showing curved segments, centre pieces, joints, supports and required bracing. Record manufacturer, part references, surface finish and the matching project drawings. Rectangular decks alone do not establish a supported curved edge.
Specify stairs or an accessible route, landings, perimeter treatment, secured finish and cable entry. Fascia and skirting conceal the frame; they do not add usable load-bearing area.
Manufacturer example: Staging Dimensions describes a two-piece version for this diameter. Confirm the delivered part references and its support drawing.
Checks before use
- Mark the centre and finished outside boundary on the venue plan; include access and audience clearances beyond the circle.
- Compare delivered parts and their orientation with the approved layout. Resolve a missing segment, support or connection before assembly continues.
- Before release, check that the specified joints and supports are present, the finished surface is continuous and access meets the platform without an unresolved gap or level change.
- After release, rehearse the planned movements and check sightlines under show lighting. Rehearsal does not replace structural acceptance.
Three technical questions
Can we make the curve by cutting our rectangular decks?
Do not alter a structural deck without the manufacturer’s written detail or a project design covering the modification. Identify the existing frame and required outline; ask for a compatible curved module or a documented custom solution.
How many people fit on this diameter?
Do not calculate occupancy from area alone. Draw people, furniture, instruments and access at scale, then have the responsible team establish permitted use, loads and egress for the actual assembly.
What if a joint moves or a step separates?
Keep people off the affected assembly. Record the location, part references and observed gap or displacement without reproducing the movement under load. The responsible installer or designer must resolve support, restraint and connection before reuse.
Conditions for use
Height, load capacity, leg count and bracing cannot be inferred from diameter. This guide covers a fixed platform; it does not approve rotation, occupied movement, dancing, vehicle display or outdoor use.
Use only components and connections accepted for the selected system. A common size or similar-looking clamp does not establish compatibility. Changes to floor, height, use or layout require review.
