Portable generation
Two portable generators in parallel: authorized systems only
To assess two generators in parallel, identify the manufacturer-authorized combination and its documented limits. Models, serial numbers and the kit are part of that check; similar connectors are not enough.
What a parallel proposal must identify
The U.S. EU2200i manual distinguishes models and, for certain EU2000i combinations, serial ranges. It requires an approved parallel cable. This specific approval does not transfer to other brands, families or revisions.
- Request the kit reference and system power and outlet limits.
- Review both outdoor positions and exhausts with the provider. Compare a suitable single source or venue power.
What to send for a power review
- Both nameplates, applicable manuals and authorized kit reference.
- Loads, continuity requirements and expected behavior if one unit stops.
Planned location and operation
Run a fuel-powered generator outdoors, away from openings, with exhaust directed away from buildings and people. An enclosed tent, garage or equipment room is unsuitable, even with ventilation. An automatic carbon monoxide (CO) shutoff does not permit indoor use.
In the United States, CPSC recommends at least 20 ft (about 6.1 m) from buildings. Also check the manual, air intakes, audience areas and venue rules before choosing a location. In Argentina, check the local equipment version and the jurisdiction’s and venue’s requirements.
Plan for a dry surface and rain protection as specified in the manual, without enclosing the exhaust. Shut down and let the generator cool before refueling. If the site cannot support these conditions or the required breaks, compare another power source.
Never feed building wiring through a wall outlet. If the project requires a transfer system, request an authorized system and review by qualified personnel. That review must cover protection, grounding, neutral configuration and distribution; do not use improvised adapters.
Frequently asked questions
Does parallel operation double voltage?
No. Available voltage is the authorized system’s specification, not the sum of two units.
Will the full load continue if one unit stops?
If one unit stops, available capacity falls and the power supply may be interrupted. Ask the provider to review that scenario with the planned load, and assess the event’s continuity needs separately.
Can I make a cable if the connectors fit?
No. Physical fit establishes neither compatibility nor safety; use an authorized system.
