Event power planning
Event load lists: nameplate data and operating scenarios
A load list makes a power request specific and exposes missing information before load-in. Keep nameplate ratings, planned operation and estimates in separate fields.
Use one row per device or group of identical devices
- Record quantity, manufacturer, exact model and variant; attach a readable external nameplate photo or official data sheet.
- Copy input voltage, frequency and W, VA or A with their stated conditions. Audio output or light output is different from electrical input.
- Include location, schedule, startup, simultaneous operation, criticality and the source of each value. Mark unknowns as pending rather than zero.
Compare scenarios with visible assumptions
Separate setup, rehearsal and show operation, and retain the manufacturer’s maximum input rating. Typical consumption helps describe operation but does not replace the maximum or justify smaller protective devices.
Watts alone do not establish AC current: voltage and power factor are also needed. Group comparable values and request review for three-phase supplies or incomplete data.
| Assumption | Planned operation | Declared maximum |
|---|---|---|
| 4 units; each has 300 W typical and 500 W maximum input | 4 × 300 W = 1,200 W | 4 × 500 W = 2,000 W |
| Information still needed | Input current and startup data | Supply capacity to be reviewed |
Ask the venue about alternatives
Compare documented existing circuits with temporary distribution coordinated by the authorized provider. Send the load-list revision, equipment locations and schedule. A nearby outlet does not establish spare capacity. Do not open panels to complete the list.
Planning questions
Is an amplifier’s output wattage its power draw?
Output power is different from mains input. Use the exact model’s electrical ratings and the manufacturer’s stated operating conditions.
Can I total only typical LED consumption?
Record maximum input ratings, planned content and brightness, and startup data. The provider can then review which scenario places the greatest demand on the supply.
Can I inquire before the list is final?
Yes. Send approximate quantities, areas and confirmed equipment. Identify alternatives and unknowns so the proposal can evolve without treating estimates as final ratings.
Sources and scope
Technical reference documentation. Venue staff and a qualified professional review its application to the actual installation.
Before finalizing the supply, confirm venue and local authority requirements in the United States, or utility and local requirements for an event in Argentina. Confirm the actual site’s electrical configuration regardless of this guide’s language.
