Stages and drape

Runway: route, deck transitions and surface finish

Plan the complete walking route and its interfaces before choosing runway dimensions.

Define the walking route

Ask GLMedia about rental options for your event. The proposal is subject to availability, confirmation of the model and configuration, and the venue’s technical requirements.

Map entrance, outward walk, turns, pauses, return and exit. Include garment width, footwear and any simultaneous movement in the usable-area plan.

Layout and stage transitions

Layout
Show the audience boundary, camera positions, lights, cables and backstage access.
Interfaces
Record the systems and references on both sides of every stage-to-runway transition.

Review people, scenery and equipment loads for the actual support layout. A narrow footprint or low height does not establish capacity or stability.

Decks, finish and edge protection

Specify connected decks, required supports and bracing, secured finish, access and appropriate edge protection. Keep lighting hardware outside the planned walking route.

Checks before rehearsal

  1. Confirm the route and usable width with production and the venue.
  2. Inspect deck connections, level transitions and finish attachment before use.
  3. After release, rehearse the actual route under show lighting with representative footwear and clothing; resolve any issue before the event.

Three technical questions

A gap opens where the runway meets the stage. Can tape bridge it?

No. Close the transition and review support, level and the designed connection between the two systems. Do not fix it with unapproved clamps or fasteners.

Record where the gap appears and whether it changes after setup, without occupying or moving the affected assembly to test it. Identify both systems and their connection details for the responsible designer. Tape can conceal a gap but cannot establish support or restraint.

Can a glossy finish be chosen from a photo alone?

No. Review the specified surface and its attachment, then assess it under the intended footwear and lighting conditions. A rehearsal does not replace structural approval.

Do edge lights replace required protection?

No. Marking helps visibility but does not establish fall protection. Have the venue and responsible designer resolve the edge treatment for this use and location.

Before anyone uses the stage

Keep access and evacuation routes clear. Do not add chairs, photographers or scenery to the runway without reviewing the revised layout and loads.
