Camera platform: sightline, operator space and vibration

Plan the camera support and operator position together before choosing platform height.

Define the shot and operator position

Ask GLMedia about rental options for your event. The proposal is subject to availability, confirmation of the model and configuration, and the venue’s technical requirements.

Record the camera, lens, tripod footprint and operator position. Check the required shot with the audience standing or seated as expected.

Working area and movement transfer

Working area
Allow room to operate the head and lens, reach controls and enter safely without contacting the tripod.
Supports
The camera and operator may need separately designed platforms to reduce transferred movement.

Review the platform, supports and concentrated tripod contacts as a complete system. Static load capacity does not demonstrate acceptable image stability.

Access, separation and cable routing

Specify access, compatible edge protection, controlled public separation and cable routing. A barrier must not become an unplanned structural attachment.

Observe the shot during supervised rehearsal

  1. Confirm the shot, audience obstruction and venue constraints.
  2. Have the selected assembly inspected before use.
  3. During supervised rehearsal, observe the intended shot while checking normal operation and nearby circulation; record any motion before changing the design.

Three technical questions

The image moves when someone walks on the riser. What should be checked?

Record when the motion occurs and stop use if the platform itself is unstable. Have the support arrangement reviewed; consider a designed separation between operator and camera, then repeat the observation after an approved change.

Record camera and lens, framing and the exact moment of the disturbance so observations before and after an approved change can be compared. Distinguish visible movement of the platform from image-only motion; the observation alone does not identify the cause or approve the structure.

Will foam or sandbags always solve it?

No. Do not add flexible supports or weight without approval for the tripod and platform. Added material can change support behavior and loads without resolving the cause.

Can we raise the camera by stacking another deck?

Do not stack improvised supports. Reassess the complete configuration, access, edges, load contacts and sightline with the system provider.

Before anyone uses the stage

Keep public traffic clear of the camera position and preserve any designed separation. Do not remove guardrails or modify supports to obtain a shot.
