Portable generation
Receiving a rented portable generator: documents and exterior
When the unit arrives, compare the delivery with the proposal and record any differences before the event. Photos and documentation help identify what needs review or which accessory is missing.
What to record on delivery
With the unit stopped, cool and in the safe condition specified by the provider, record its nameplate, panel and accessible exterior. Do not open service covers or work on components. Request a review before use if you see leaks, damage or deteriorated connectors.
- Match model, serial number, fuel, manual, approved accessories and rental scope.
- Request maintenance records, provider checks, applicable safety notices and support contact.
What to send for a power review
- Dated photos and differences from the proposal.
- Assigned operator, accepted outdoor location and fuel/rain plan.
Planned location and operation
Run a fuel-powered generator outdoors, away from openings, with exhaust directed away from buildings and people. An enclosed tent, garage or equipment room is unsuitable, even with ventilation. An automatic carbon monoxide (CO) shutoff does not permit indoor use.
In the United States, CPSC recommends at least 20 ft (about 6.1 m) from buildings. Also check the manual, air intakes, audience areas and venue rules before choosing a location. In Argentina, check the local equipment version and the jurisdiction’s and venue’s requirements.
Plan for a dry surface and rain protection as specified in the manual, without enclosing the exhaust. Shut down and let the generator cool before refueling. If the site cannot support these conditions or the required breaks, compare another power source.
Never feed building wiring through a wall outlet. If the project requires a transfer system, request an authorized system and review by qualified personnel. That review must cover protection, grounding, neutral configuration and distribution; do not use improvised adapters.
Frequently asked questions
Should I start it to prove delivery condition?
Coordinate commissioning and checks with the provider and operator, following the unit’s manual. Record receipt using identification, exterior photos and documentation, without starting a test on your own.
Is a maintenance label enough?
Request maintenance records and the provider’s checks for that unit. The label and delivery photos provide information, but do not establish the unit’s complete condition on their own.
What if an accessory is missing or damage appears?
Record it and request a documented solution; do not improvise cables or protection.
