Model and application
- Model
- Meyer Sound ULTRA-X40, analog documentation.
- Amplification
- Built-in amplification and processing.
- Nominal pattern
- 110° × 50°, depending on horn orientation.
- Audio
- XLR Input and Loop.
- Power connection
- powerCON 20 input and loop.
Do not transfer ULTRA-X42 or GEN-1 connector/control assumptions to this model. Identify the actual input module and horn orientation.
Connections and required equipment
Use suitable line-level XLR audio and the specified grounded power connection. Audio Loop repeats the signal path; it is not a substitute for a system-alignment design. Confirm the processor when independent subwoofer control is required.
Prepare the system
- Record module, horn orientation, processor routes and original settings.
- Protect listeners and check one source at a controlled level.
- Compare top/sub geometry and the intended design before altering filters, polarity or delay.
Questions and troubleshooting
The enclosure is powered but silent. Where first?
Check audio independently from power.
- Observe status and compare source output, mute and XLR Input.
- Lower the source before testing a known cable. Persistent startup/status faults require the manufacturer’s troubleshooting and service path.
- If the fault follows the known-good cable/source comparison, correct that upstream path and verify this enclosure at low level. If the same compatible source remains silent here, retain status/module details for service rather than opening the unit.
Does using Loop automatically set the right crossover?
No universal top/sub alignment follows from cable order.
- Identify whether both systems receive the intended signal and any external processing.
- Follow the manual’s configuration conditions and measure alignment for separated or advanced layouts. Do not copy a forum’s filter or polarity recipe.
- If top and sub work separately but their combination loses energy, request alignment measurement rather than adding gain. Verify both separately and together after the agreed processing correction; unresolved cancellation belongs with the system technician.
Why is coverage different after repositioning?
Horn orientation and placement affect the nominal pattern.
- Compare actual orientation and the coverage design before EQ.
- Mechanical rotation or mounting changes require the exact procedure and responsible technician; do not improvise on an energized or suspended unit.
- If the changed coverage matches the new orientation, check the intended listening areas against the design. After any authorized correction, recheck those same positions at controlled level; unexpected differences require measurement and inspection by the responsible technician.
Choose the next check
| Observation | Next check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Powered but silent | Status and XLR Input | Source/mute/cable |
| Top/sub overlap | Geometry and processing | Filters, polarity, delay |
| Coverage changed | Horn and placement | Orientation/design |
Precautions
- De-energize before connecting or disconnecting powerCON 20. Keep earth intact and size power distribution for the actual circuit; no universal loop count.
- Reduce signal during persistent limiting; never bypass protection.
- Use exact mounting documentation and qualified handling; no opening or ad hoc horn procedure here.
