Model and application
- Model
- Meyer Sound UPM-1P.
- Amplification
- Built-in amplification.
- Audio
- Balanced XLR input and XLR loop.
- Voltage variants
- 115/230 V switchable or 100 V non-switchable version.
- Indicators
- On/Temp and Limit indicators.
UPM-1P and UPM-2P are different loudspeakers. A shared manual does not make their internal modules interchangeable. Do not assume automatic universal voltage.
Connections and required equipment
Connect suitable line-level audio to the XLR input. Audio loop and AC loop have different functions. Confirm actual nameplate, supply, cables and circuit loading; no universal daisy-chain quantity is given here.
Prepare the system
- Before power, identify voltage version and selector where fitted; inspect it unplugged.
- Protect listeners and start with the source down. Record the speaker circuit and signal path.
- Observe On/Temp, then test one agreed source at a controlled level; retain the initial routing.
Questions and troubleshooting
On/Temp stays off or there is no response after startup. What next?
The manual specifies removing AC if the indicator/audio does not respond after 10 seconds.
- Remove power rather than repeatedly cycling or increasing signal.
- Have the responsible technician verify the unit’s voltage/supply match. Persistent failure goes to authorized service; do not open it.
On/Temp is green but there is no sound. Where first?
Power indication does not prove the audio path.
- Confirm source output, mute and the XLR input used.
- Lower the source before comparing one known-good cable/source. Record whether the fault follows the path or remains at the loudspeaker.
- If the fault follows the cable/source, correct that upstream path and verify again at low level. If it stays at this loudspeaker with a known-good compatible source, stop use and send the indicator, power-variant and comparison details to authorized service.
Limit stays on and more level does not help. What should change?
Meyer advises against continuous limiting.
- Reduce input signal and inspect ventilation and source clipping.
- If required level is still unattainable, review system coverage/capacity with its designer; do not bypass protection.
- After reducing signal, verify that audio remains clean and the indicator no longer stays on continuously during the same program. If continuous limiting or abnormal response persists at modest demand, stop increasing level and have the responsible technician assess the system.
Choose the next check
| Observation | Next check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Startup fails | Remove AC per manual | Voltage variant and indicator |
| Green but silent | Source and XLR path | Mute and cable |
| Continuous Limit | Reduce signal | Source clipping and system demand |
Precautions
- Unplug before any voltage-selector change; never defeat earth.
- No internal repair or UPM-2P amplifier substitution.
- Mounting and power distribution require the exact hardware documentation and responsible personnel.
