NovaStar VX1000 Pro: 4K inputs, layers and LED mapping
Plan an LED screen system around the VX1000 Pro: identify inputs, layer resources, receiving cards and port wiring. Read the manuals and specifications for this exact model.
Identify the Pro before configuring it
This guide covers the VX1000 Pro. The original VX1000 has different inputs and features; a shared part of the name does not make their manuals or configurations interchangeable. Check the unit label, firmware and receiving-card versions. The VX Pro series manual covers several models and uses the VX2000 Pro in some examples.
Ten Gigabit LED data outputs and a published maximum load of 6.5 million pixels. Calculate the actual load using frame rate, bit depth, topology and receiving cards. Maximum width and height do not describe a simultaneously usable full-capacity rectangle.
One HDMI 2.0 input supports up to 4096 × 2160 at 60 Hz, subject to signal format. The two HDMI 1.3 inputs and 3G-SDI input have different limits. The HDMI monitoring output is fixed at 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz; it is not an additional LED control output.
Six 2K × 1K layer resources. A 4K × 2K layer uses four resources and a 4K × 1K layer uses two. Six resources do not mean six simultaneous 4K layers.
The two optical ports have mode-dependent roles; OPT 2 can copy or back up the output. Do not add their capacity to the ten LED ports. Identify compatible optical modules and endpoints before planning a fiber link.
Prepare the system
Save the known configuration and record the exact model, versions, source and playback output format.
Record cabinet quantity and pixel resolution, rows, columns, orientation and wiring for each port. Physical dimensions of 5 × 3 meters are insufficient to calculate the map.
Connect control through the appropriate management port and use a method supported by that version: the device display, NovaLCT or Unico. Check cabinet-file and receiving-card compatibility first.
Check physical order with a pattern outside the live program. Prepare input, crop, scaling and composition; then verify actual content and configuration persistence, distinguishing presets from saving to receiving cards.
Operating questions
Can I configure a 5 × 3 meter screen from those dimensions?
They are enough to start an inquiry. A final map needs cabinet resolution and quantity, data routing, frame rate and receiving cards. Those inputs determine the pixel canvas and load per port. Do not load a similar cabinet file to replace missing identification.
Does the Pro guarantee zero latency?
The specifications distinguish working modes and latency within the controller. ByPass disables video processing; Genlock and low latency cannot be enabled together in that mode. These conditions do not guarantee latency across the camera, playback and screen chain.
Can I play any 4K file from USB?
The file format and codec must be supported. Although the decoder accepts certain files up to 4K, specifications V1.4.0 fix the USB source at 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz. Do not confuse that source with HDMI 2.0 input capability.
The input has a signal but the LED is black: what should I check?
Separate the source, layers and distribution. Check the selected input, layer state, crop, brightness and image controls, then compare with an internal pattern authorized by the operator. For a partial failure, identify the port and first cabinet before changing the entire map.
How should backup be planned?
Define the failure it must cover: cable, port, processor or source. Optical, receiving-card and operating-mode options need a compatible system and an off-show test. Enabling an option does not establish automatic recovery across the entire chain.
Conditions to check
Free topology requires specific receiving cards. The documented Side-by-Side and Top-and-Bottom 3D formats halve output capacity. Match features and menus to the installed version and preserve settings before changing it. Do not use a live-event firmware update as the first troubleshooting step.
