ROE Carbon CB5: panel variants, signal path and Air Frame
Ask GLMedia about rental options for an LED screen system. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.
Which panel does this guide cover?
With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.
The Carbon CB5 is a modular LED panel for large event and touring displays. This guide covers the original full-size CB5, with White and Black HB LEDs distinguished below. CB5 Half and Carbon MarkII have separate specifications.
ROE documents Air Frame compatibility with Carbon CB5. This identifies a compatible accessory family; it does not establish which frame, hardware or approval is present on a particular job.
Panel variants and connections
- Original full panel
- 5.77 mm pitch; 104 × 208 pixels; 600 × 1200 × 77 mm; 13.85 kg without touring frame. The July 2024 brochure lists 1/4 scan and 7680 Hz; older documentation can differ.
- White / Black HB
- White: 6000 nit and 500/250 W maximum/average per panel. Black HB: 4500 nit and 650/330 W maximum/average per panel. Identify the LED variant before selecting electrical loads or matching panels.
- Signal and AC
- The V3.1 manual identifies data connections, Power-in and Power-out, and etherCON data cables. It lists 100–240 VAC, 50–60 Hz and True1/adaptor cable options. Verify the installed connector and feeder rating; the panel data connector is not a direct video-source input.
- Control platform
- The 2024 brochure lists Brompton, Megapixel and Evision. Use the platform matching the installed receiver; one panel name does not make those systems interchangeable.
What the system needs
Provide a compatible processor, validated receiver/fixture configuration, pixel map, tested data cables and qualified electrical distribution. Specify the LED variant and panel revision; avoid combining reference values from different documents.
For an Air Frame layout, identify frame revision, connection parts, support, complete weight, wind conditions and the applicable structural report. Carbon CB5 and CB5 MarkII frame weights are not interchangeable.
Prepare the system
- Record labels, receiver platform, firmware and physical cable order. Preserve the current processor project before edits. Inspect accessible connectors and panel edges for damage.
- Have qualified personnel check the approved power and structural design before energizing. Patch data following the actual direction and plan; keep source-video wiring upstream of the LED processor.
- On a Tessera-equipped system, inspect detected strings with Add Fixtures From Network and compare counts before association. Use the documented tools for other installed platforms. In rehearsal, show a border and cabinet labels, then solid colors at suitable brightness.
Operating questions
Can White and Black HB panels be planned as the same electrical load?
No. The July 2024 brochure distinguishes 500 W maximum per White panel from 650 W per Black HB panel. Those are panel values, not W/m². Record the actual variant and design distribution from its applicable maximum, feeder limits and local requirements.
Check label, approved cabinet file and calibration before mixing batches. A similar image or matching pitch does not prove identical power, brightness or color behavior.
Does Air Frame compatibility supply a safe hanging height or wind limit?
Compatibility alone does not define an installation. Check the exact frame, panel generation, locking parts, support and structural report. Include all accessories and, for ground support, the required ballast.
Do not transfer a current CB5 MarkII combination weight or a brochure height to the original CB5. Have a competent structural professional determine the permitted arrangement and wind plan; this guide does not provide a rigging recipe.
A panel is black after replacement. Should it be changed again during the show?
First check the processor input and blackout state, expected receiver count and the point where the data chain stops. During a planned test, inspect accessible data leads and substitute one known-good compatible lead.
For Tessera receivers, a replacement panel must be correctly associated in the project. Check detection and placement before assuming a hardware failure. Public mid-show replacement reports do not validate hot swapping, climbing or suspended repair. Stop and arrange an approved service window if the check needs opening or mechanical access.
Symptom and next check
| Symptom | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong power estimate | White versus Black HB; W per panel | Use the applicable maximum and feeder limits. |
| Black after replacement | Detected receiver and project association | Review mapping before a hardware intervention. |
| Frame weight mismatch | Original CB5 versus MarkII combination | Obtain the correct assembly data. |
Power, environment and installation
The official original CB5 page lists IP65 and operation from −20 to +45 °C. IP protection does not authorize wet electrical connection or make every processor and accessory suitable outdoors. Apply the matching connector and enclosure requirements.
The manual requires qualified installation, grounding and condition checks. After prolonged humid storage, use the manufacturer’s applicable moisture-conditioning procedure; do not jump directly to a full-brightness white screen. Isolate AC before service and keep damaged equipment out of use.
Support and ballast depend on the exact assembly and environment. Do not climb or work beneath a suspended screen on the basis of a forum example. Electrical chaining, torque and structural limits must come from the matching manual and approved design.
