RF coordination and troubleshooting

Shure AD600: prepare event RF scanning and coordination

Plan antennas, site scans and wireless-system monitoring. Start an inquiry with an initial microphone and in-ear list, even before a frequency plan is ready.

Model and scope

AD600 is an Axient Digital spectrum manager. Its scanning range is 174 MHz–2 GHz and it has six antenna connections; these are not six wireless microphone channels. It does not replace system receivers or the audio mixer.

A scan describes what reaches those antennas at that location and time. It does not guarantee an interference-free event. Frequency selection must consider equipment, locally permitted bands and coordination with other venue users.

Connections and limits that matter

Antennas and RF paths
Map each input to a zone, antenna, band and cable. Enable bias only when a compatible accessory needs it; check current limits and alarms in the manual.
Networking and coordination
Wireless Workbench extends control and monitoring options. Record the network, managed devices and versions; a calculated list does not prove deployment to every transmitter and receiver.
Two listening paths
Listen supports Shure’s specified RF signal types, including certain analog systems and unencrypted Axient Digital. Dante Browse monitors audio from networked Dante devices. These are different paths, not universal RF demodulation.

Prepare the system in stages

  1. List models, bands, transmitter counts, zones and other RF systems. Save the configuration and frequency plan, assign an RF coordinator and agree on a window for tests and changes.
  2. Check antennas, coax, distribution and bias against the actual accessories. Label inputs and locations; a display setting cannot correct an antenna that misses the required band or zone.
  3. Capture activity and label files with date, location and conditions. Distinguish a saved capture from a live scan. Review coordination with the other systems before deploying frequencies.
  4. Make changes with the RF coordinator outside critical operation. Confirm transmitter/receiver pairs and walk-test with all planned systems running; also check console audio and a rehearsal recording.

Example event preparation

For a proposed conference with a main stage and support rooms, build one microphone and in-ear inventory. Identify which antenna observes each zone and repeat listening and walk tests where users will move.

Keep the approved plan, captures and agreed contingency. Separate advance surveys, coordination, antenna distribution and live monitoring when defining the service scope.

Frequently asked questions

Are the six inputs six receivers?

No. They are RF connections for antennas and zones. Receivers and audio channels must be sized separately.

Can it listen to every digital transmission?

No. Listen has supported signal types and restrictions, including Axient Digital encryption. Dante Browse is separate and needs the corresponding network-audio path.

Does a clean scan guarantee the whole event?

No. Locations, activity and systems change. Record conditions, test the complete setup and agree on monitoring and contingency.

Can frequencies be changed on air?

Do not redeploy without operational coordination. The RF lead must assess impact, agree on a window and verify each affected pair.

Should bias be enabled on every input?

Not by default. It depends on the connected antennas and distribution, compatibility and the unit’s individual and total limits.

What can I send at the beginning?

Start with rack photos, an initial microphone and in-ear list or a preliminary rundown. Add rooms, approximate system counts and any known models and bands; include the date and venue when confirmed.
