Audio

Yamaha DM3 con Dante

A compact console for speech, small live mixes and separate feeds. Identify the Dante-equipped DM3 before planning network inputs; the manufacturer calls the other model DM3 Standard.

Model and application

Manufacturer / model
Yamaha DM3; Dante-equipped version.
Mixing channels
16 mono + 1 stereo + 2 FX return channels.
Local analog I/O
16 analog inputs; 8 analog outputs.
Dante audio
Dante: 16 inputs / 16 outputs.
Surface and buses
6 MIX buses; 2 MATRIX buses.

The supplied name DM3-D refers here to the Dante-equipped DM3. DM3 Standard has no Dante. Connector count and mixing capacity are separate; a stagebox does not add unlimited mixing channels.

Connections and required equipment

Use INPUT and OMNI OUT locally, PRIMARY/SECONDARY for Dante, NETWORK for control, USB TO HOST for a computer and the top USB connector for storage. Confirm the stagebox, sample rate, adapter and cable requirements of the actual units.

Prepare the system

  1. Record firmware, topology, channel source and destination. Save the working setup before changing routing.
  2. Protect outputs and compare the input port selected in INPUT PATCH with the intended local, DANTE, USB or PB source.
  3. For a proposed line check, use one agreed source at a controlled level; compare channel meter, bus and physical destination. Coordinate shared preamp changes.

Questions and troubleshooting

Dante is patched, but the mix channel is silent. What is separate?

The network subscription and INPUT PATCH are different assignments.

  1. Confirm transmitter and receive channel, clock and sample-rate agreement.
  2. Inspect INPUT PATCH for the intended DANTE port, then channel meter and output route. Controller is an official routing alternative when auto setup does not fit the system; preserve existing subscriptions.
  3. If the channel meter responds after correcting INPUT PATCH, the receive source reaches the mix channel; continue to the bus/output only if the destination remains silent. Verify the same source at its intended destination. If clock or subscription errors persist, record the exact status and escalate to the network operator without replacing working routes blindly.
Can OFFLINE appear while audio still passes?

Yes. Yamaha documents OFFLINE when Dante operates on the secondary port as well as when the associated device is offline.

  1. Compare actual sound, meters, connection mode and which port is carrying the link.
  2. Do not infer a firmware bug or reboot a passing system from that label alone. Record the topology and inspect the intended primary path without bridging redundant networks.
  3. If audio and meters remain stable on the documented secondary path, the label alone does not establish an audio failure. Verify the agreed primary/redundant design in rehearsal; when audio also drops, record port, clock and device status for Yamaha/network support instead of changing the mode live.
Why is the computer or USB playback source missing?

USB TO HOST audio and playback from USB storage are different sources.

  1. Identify whether playback comes from a computer or top-panel storage and inspect USB versus PB in INPUT PATCH.
  2. Compare the computer audio device/output routing when applicable. USB uses digital gain and hides +48V; phantom power cannot recover a computer signal.
  3. If the correct USB/PB patch restores the meter, the earlier source selection was the relevant stage; check the intended bus and destination next. Verify computer playback and return separately to avoid a loop. If no device/audio appears with a known-good supported connection, save OS, driver and patch details for support.
