Audio
Yamaha DM7
Trace audio from the remote device to the input channel without confusing control status with signal.

Model and application
- Console
- DM7 full-size
- Input capacity
- 120 mono inputs
- Audio network
- Dante
- Channel source
- DANTE PATCH + input patch
- Version check
- Console / Dante / Editor
Identify DM7 versus DM7 Compact and any optional card. Split Mode and stored files affect the active routing.
Connections and required equipment
Trace source output → Dante subscription → console Dante input → channel input patch → bus → output port. Remote-device metering can describe the source rather than the channel audio.
Prepare the system
- Save the working file and document patch ownership before changes.
- Check actual device versions, sample rates and clock status against official compatibility.
- Test one input at controlled level before changing shared routing.
Questions and troubleshooting
Why is the remote meter active but the channel silent?
Follow the audio path separately from device control.
- Read the DANTE PATCH source and the channel input assignment.
- Compare remote, channel and bus meters; record the first point where signal disappears.
- If the remote source meters but the channel does not, compare subscription and input patch; if the channel meters, the input path is present. Correct only the identified mismatch and verify at the bus/destination; unresolved errors require saved patch, clock and version details for support.
Why does a channel meter but not reach the output?
Check the channel-to-bus path.
- Check channel ON, fader, DCA/mute state and intended bus send.
- Inspect active insert return and output patch before altering processing.
- If the bus is silent, the loss precedes its output; if it meters but the destination is silent, continue through output patch and downstream equipment. Verify the agreed route at controlled level; stop broad changes if the active insert or shared routing cannot be identified.
Should a firmware update be the first test?
Plan version changes outside the show.
- Record console, Dante, I/O and Editor versions and read the matching notes.
- Back up files and follow the exact update path and rollback limits; do not infer a cure from an old thread.
- A planned update is justified only by applicable requirements/notes, not a similar symptom. After any scheduled change, verify the previously recorded local and network routes before use. If behavior differs, retain the backup and exact messages for Yamaha support rather than attempting an unsupported rollback.
Choose the next check
| Observation | Next check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Remote meter only | Audio subscription and input patch | Source, Dante input, channel |
| Channel but no bus | ON, DCA, sends and insert | First silent stage |
| Discovery or sync warning | Versions and clock/network status | Exact warning and topology |
Precautions
- Do not connect redundant networks together without an approved topology.
- Phantom power and shared headamp changes affect connected equipment and other consoles.
- Avoid Clear All, automatic repatching or restarts on a working system.
