Multicamera production guide

Planning presentations and multicamera production

Ask GLMedia about rental options for live switching and image distribution. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

What each destination needs

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

A multicamera production combines sources and selects what each destination needs to receive. Room screens, streaming, recording, and presenter monitors may need different pictures or graphics.

We can help turn a draft schedule into a source and destination plan. You can start with the event format and the material already available, before camera models or a final running order are settled.

Sources, destinations, and routing

Sources
List cameras, presentation computers, playback, and remote contributors. For each source, record connector, resolution, frame rate, and audio path.
Destinations
Define program, preview, room screens, streaming, recording, and returns. Program is the selected output; preview is an operator check before a transition.
Routing
AUX routing can provide another destination feed when the exact switcher supports it. Identify what must differ from program instead of assuming every output carries an independent mix.

What to share

Share a draft schedule, speaker positions, slides, videos, remote participation, and delivery requirements. An approximate source list is enough to start comparing configurations.

Tell us which pictures need graphics and which audience or operator should see each feed. Include whether presenters need current slides, notes, or camera returns.

Describe existing equipment and signal paths, even if incomplete. We can identify which connections and operating roles still need to be resolved.

Preparing the comparison

  1. Draw sources and destinations before selecting ports. Mark which feeds must remain independent and who will monitor each one.
  2. Check source formats against the exact switcher, converters, and destination. Format conversion and synchronization should be confirmed for the selected configuration rather than inferred from a connector.
  3. Build an audio plan alongside the picture plan. Identify microphones, playback, remote audio, and the mix needed by each destination; rehearse remote conversation and returns when applicable.
  4. Rehearse cuts, transitions, slides, videos, graphics, and source changes. Review the actual room screen and output monitoring, not only the operator’s multiview.
  5. Record a representative segment and play it back with audio. Verify the requested files, duration, and tracks before relying on the recording plan.
  6. Rehearse the agreed backup change outside the live program. Record what remains available, what the operator must do, and how the presentation resumes.

Three technical questions

If the room screen looks right, is the stream or recording also correct?

Check each destination directly. Review picture, graphics, framing, and audio using its actual output path. An operator monitor does not verify every destination.

We can prepare a test segment that includes slides, speech, video playback, and transitions, then compare the results before the event.

Does a switcher recording include separate camera files?

Confirm the exact model and recording mode. ATEM Television Studio 4K8 records program; its recording should not be treated as the input ISO feature of HD8 ISO.

State whether you need the live edit, separate sources for editing, or another recording path. For ISO, verify the actual mode, storage, and files in a recorded test before committing the delivery.

When does a backup become independent?

Trace what it shares with the primary path: source, power, switcher, transport, storage, and operator action. A second file or output can still depend on the same failing stage.

Agree on the interruption to be tested and the recovery steps. We can compare practical backup options and rehearse the selected change without treating an untested diagram as automatic failover.

Installation and limits

Keep installation, electrical distribution, and supports within the exact system documentation and qualified work. Do not disconnect power or alter safety systems to simulate a failure during the event.

Preserve the working project and starting settings. Test one change at a time outside the live program and restore changes that do not help.

Assign who calls the show, switches pictures, manages slides, monitors audio, and checks recording. Combine roles only after rehearsing the actual workload.

Sources and context

Research reused from model records consulted October 22, 2026. Recording and routing vary by model and mode. The guide proposes planning and tests; no physical system has been verified.
