Conference audio feeds for press and recording
Prepare feeds, levels and monitoring for multiple media outlets while keeping mix control.
Ask about rental, purchase or integration
Tell us the use, date and venue, even with an approximate brief. We can assess equipment, integration, preparation and technical support. Configuration, availability and terms are confirmed in the proposal.
Agree the feed before distributing connectors
Proposed scenario: several cameras and recorders need speech and questions. List each destination, connector, mic/line input, mono/stereo and required mix. A press mix may differ from PA; remote listeners do not hear the natural room sound.
Compare a dedicated mixer output into press distribution with an active unit mixing supported sources. Mic splitters, line distributors and press boxes are not equivalent because they have XLR. For example, Radial documents Exo-Pod for a balanced line-level source; do not infer direct microphone input without preamplification.
End-to-end test
- Label sources and press bus; decide fader/mute behavior and local/remote contributions. Exclude intercom and crew conversations.
- Identify distributor, isolation, levels, adapters and power using both manuals. Agree phantom before connection; do not remove protective earth to cure hum.
- At agreed level, have each source speak and listen to a test recording at a destination. Mixer meters do not prove correct camera input.
- If only one outlet distorts, check that input mic/line selection, pad and cable. If all fail, inspect bus and distribution. Do not lower room sound to fix a recording input.
- Reserve an output and cable and assign someone to arriving media. Record changes without disconnecting working destinations during speech.
Requirements to coordinate with the video team
Provide a sheet with included sources, mono/stereo, channels, agreed nominal level, connector/handoff point, sync source where applicable and monitoring responsibility. For SDI/HDMI embedding, the video team confirms channel mapping, format, sync and a played-back recording; this guide prepares audio rather than configuring the recorder.
Assess press mixing, distribution, cabling, adaptation and operation. Start with date, venue, approximate outlets and final mix versus separate voices; complete connections before the final quote.
More setup questions
Can a summed mix be used to edit individual voices?
It cannot recover isolated tracks. If per-person editing is needed, prepare multitrack paths alongside a reference mix and agree delivery with recording.
Does delivering signal confirm recording?
No. Each responsible person must verify source, level and playback of a sample. Audio handoff and recorded files are different states.
