AV show control

AV show control: control map and cue list

An opening may call for video playback, an audio cue, and a lighting change. Start by agreeing on who calls GO, what each system receives, and how the output is checked before moving on.

Who calls and who responds

Assign one person to authorize GO and an operator for each system who retains local control. The controller coordinates decisions and sends commands; each destination carries out the actions its interface supports. Agree on who can hold the sequence and authorize resuming.

Draw the command path separately from the audio or video path. Receiving a playback command does not prove that content reaches the room output. An indicator might report a connection, receipt, or a parameter value: identify which one.

What each indicator confirms

In Q-SYS 10.5.0, ECP supports polling groups of controls. That feedback reports the queried controls; audio or video output needs a separate check. Identify what each destination reports and who verifies the result.

Cue list: identity, revision, and changes

The run of show describes the program and its calls. The cue list translates each call into technical intent. A segment may contain several cues; an estimated schedule time does not automatically trigger them.

Use a stable ID and a readable label. Keep the ID when a cue moves; record a mapping if the destination needs its own numbering. Distribute a clearly labeled revision and take the previous version out of use.

Q020 · Return to speakerAgreed room state; opening completion confirmedManual GO; R03 changes the call, retains Q020

Before distributing a new revision

If the program changes during the performance, agree on the change over operational communications and record it. Resume from a known state; replaying all cues is not a way to catch up.

  1. Record date, revision, and a change summary; retain the previous copy outside the operational set.
  2. Review destinations, dependencies, and any cues that may have lost their references.
  3. Confirm that operators received the same revision and know which one is current.
  4. Walk through the sequence with the operators first, without operating equipment. Then arrange an authorized test with the destinations and record its results.

What to share for planning

Describe what each call should do, which parts may change, and who operates audio, video, and lighting. You can share a program, equipment photos, or a preliminary diagram. Known models and versions help us assess interfaces; you do not need a final cue list.

Identify whether you need a technical script, compatible equipment, specialist programming, or operation. Controller selection depends on those details and the checks the project requires.

Plan your show’s AV coordination

With your program and planned equipment, GLMedia can help review the technical cue list, interfaces, and operation. If you need additional equipment, ask about rental or purchase options; scope and availability are confirmed during project review.
