Broward College PCAT: venue approval and AV setup

The Performing Cultural Arts Theatre (PCAT) is in building 68 at Broward College’s Judson A. Samuels South Campus: 7200 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024, in Broward County. Identify this theater in your inquiry; South Campus is not Pines Center or Bailey Hall.

Request PCAT without confusing the campus, theater and booking

Policy 6Hx2-7.22 requires a written request on the appropriate form, express permission from an authorized official and compatibility with the College’s mission and regular activities. It does not confirm a date or setup.

Campus and spacePCAT, building 68, South Campus; any ancillary areas needed.Confirmation of the exact theater and included areas.
ProgramFormat, audience, date, admission charges and AV needs.Acceptance of the proposed use and the booking contact.
LayoutStage, audience, cameras, control, circulation and accessibility.Current plan, occupancy for the layout and technical review.

Do not use another auditorium’s capacity or that of a neighboring room in the same building. Request PCAT’s current plan and occupancy limit. The general rental directory directs users to check availability, rates, insurance and restrictions; an administrative contact does not replace technical approval.

Prepare stage work and rehearsal

The official theatre program page links to South Campus rules. They address departmental work: ask the theater which rules will be incorporated into an outside crew’s contract and orientation.

Prepare stage work and rehearsal
Documented controlApplication to the work planLimit
Overhead workClear the area below and prevent loose tools.Does not establish structural capacity or operator qualifications.
Batten movementTrained operator and an audible warning before movement.Does not establish inventory, loads or screen compatibility.
Incidents and uncertaintyNotify the supervisor present; do not continue an uncertain operation.Agree who fills that role during the rental.

For AV planning, submit a signal list and microphone, light, camera and control positions. Request current inventory, connections, console access and assigned personnel. Schedule an audio and video check before the audience enters. Equipment included at PCAT has not been confirmed.

Rigging, floor support and power: documentation before loads

Stage rules discuss battens and counterweights but provide neither a PCAT rigging plan nor allowable loads. Do not derive a load rating from a batten’s brake or lock. Request system identification, structural documentation and design approval; do not operate or alter counterweights as part of an equipment delivery.

For suspended LED, trusses, speakers or signage, separate equipment weights, accessories, positions and proposed loads. For ground-supported equipment, include bases, ballast, concentrated loads and floor protection. Confirm clear height, loads, permitted areas and installation and inspection responsibilities before contracting.

The stage document calls for disconnecting power before repairs rather than relying solely on dimmers or controls; major wiring and repair work is reserved for licensed electricians. This does not establish the event’s available electrical service.

Request voltage, circuits, protection, connectors and usable power for each system. Agree who connects, tests and disconnects. If a fault occurs, stop using the affected equipment and notify the responsible person; do not improvise repairs or defeat protective devices.

Access, schedules and restoring the space

The performer procedures describe academic rehearsals and performances. Their schedules, breaks and student services are not confirmed terms for an outside rental. Request a separate schedule covering delivery, setup, checks, rehearsal, event, strike and pickup.

The campus address does not identify a loading entrance. Check the route, widths, level changes, technical parking, storage, and access to the stage and booth. Confirm accessible areas for audience and crew, egress and circulation during setup.

Agree on restoring the patch, furniture, positions and cleanliness; document initial and final conditions as a production control. Mention of a loading area in a safety document does not establish vehicle access, dimensions or availability.

Separate institutional conditions, contracts and permits

Submit each effect separately with equipment, location and operator, and request review by the theater and responsible authority where applicable. Do not interfere with detectors or fire-protection systems.

Separate institutional conditions, contracts and permits
TypeWhat must be resolvedExpected outcome
InstitutionalPCAT use and compatibility with College activities.Permission from the authorized official.
Venue and technicalLoads, power, operation, access and stage protection.Conditions and approval for the specific setup.
Organizer and contractProgram, suppliers, insurance, staff, costs and changes.Signed scope and assigned responsibilities.
LegalPermits and inspections applicable to the work.Review by the responsible authority, not inferred solely from the municipality.
Technical recommendationPlans, lists, checks and contingencies.A reviewable design that does not replace the approvals above.

A Pembroke Pines address alone does not assign every review of an educational facility to a single municipal authority. Ask the College to identify the applicable jurisdiction. Do not transfer rules from other campuses, primary and secondary schools, or theaters.

Confirm the scope and record changes

Before dispatching equipment, confirm the contracting entity, theater contact, authorized technicians, inventory, rates, deadlines, insurance, surcharges and cancellation terms.

GLMedia can propose equipment-only rental or preparation, installation, testing, operation and removal within an agreed scope. Institutional booking and overall event organization require their own responsible parties; access to College systems is not assumed.

If a load, position, device, effect or schedule changes, send an identified plan revision and request renewed agreement on affected conditions. This is a change-control recommendation, not a verified PCAT-specific process.

Confirm vendor eligibility, technical capacities and conditions in the setup agreement.

Preparation worksheet: not a reservation, permit, structural calculation or theater authorization.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Bailey Hall specifications for PCAT?

No. They are different spaces. Request the exact theater’s plan, occupancy, inventory and conditions; do not use data for another room in the building either.

Do the batten rules prove I can suspend LED?

No. A work procedure establishes neither capacity nor approval for a load. System documentation and approval of the specific proposal are required.

Do academic rehearsal schedules apply to my rental?

They are not confirmed for outside events. Agree in writing on access, setup, rehearsal, performance and pickup with the responsible staff.

Can I inquire without knowing which equipment I need?

Yes. Prepare the format, date, audience and what you want to display or amplify. Models can be selected after the space and technical conditions are confirmed.

Official documentation

Policy 6Hx2-7.22 is dated June 30, 2020. Theatre Department rules describe academic stage work; agree on their application to an outside crew and its contract. The campus directory gives South Campus ZIP code 33024 and the rental directory gives 33028: confirm the operational address and loading entrance before dispatch. Neither document defines PCAT loads, available power or authorized occupancy.
