Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2

ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2: conference, remote guest, and recording

Prepare two cameras, slides, and a remote guest with program and sources for editing. Discuss compact switching, integration, and operation with GLMedia.

Model and application

G2 is an HD switcher with ISO recording. CFexpress, three HDMI outputs, XLR audio, and Thunderbolt distinguish it from the previous Extreme ISO: check the actual label and software. It does not deliver an Ultra HD program.

Connections and limits

Sources
Eight HD HDMI inputs with standards conversion. A slide or call computer must provide an accepted signal; HDMI does not mean every desktop resolution or protected content is accepted.
Destinations
Three assignable HDMI outputs and USB-C webcam outputs. Define program, return, and multiview before connecting audience displays; another connector does not create another independent production.
Recording and audio
CFexpress or USB-C storage for recording. Eight HDMI input ISOs and program in H.264; mix and audio tracks depend on configuration. Prepare compatible storage, power, and monitoring.

Preparation and troubleshooting

  1. Identify G2, ATEM Software Control, and applications. Map cameras, slides, and call return; use suitable data cables and specified power.
  2. Define room audio and a guest send that excludes the guest’s own voice. Rehearse screen sharing, remote participation, and camera changes with headphones and the online destination.
  3. Test recording for the intended duration, stop it correctly, and play program and ISO files outside the unit. Agree naming, copies, and delivery before the show.

Show use and alternatives

We can evaluate a conference with two cameras, HDMI slides, and a guest computer. Scope may include return routing, audio, preparation, switching, storage, and delivery checks.

For a program copy only, compare simpler recording. For SDI, UHD, or several independent programs, study another architecture. Start with date, location, and what each audience needs to receive.

Frequently asked questions

Does G2 record cameras at their original resolution?

HDMI ISOs use the ATEM video standard; they are not original UHD camera files. If required, study camera recording and synchronization for editing.

Does a Zoom guest enter directly as a network camera?

Do not assume so. Documented remote input refers to compatible sources, not every meeting platform. A computer with HDMI output is one route to prepare and test.

Is program recording enough to choose any shot later?

Program preserves the live selection. To recut, verify ISO mode preparation and delivery of required files and the agreed editing project.

Why does the guest hear echo when program sounds correct?

Check the call return mix and duplicated audio paths. Room monitoring is insufficient: test two-way conversation and avoid sending the guest’s own signal back.

Are Thunderbolt and USB webcam the same route?

No. Thunderbolt has different functions and software requirements; confirm computer, cable, and official support. For webcam, select the correct video and audio devices in the application.

Does local recording guarantee uninterrupted streaming?

No: they share equipment but have different dependencies. Test network and platform, monitor reception, and define what failure an alternative covers; a local copy does not replace the link.
