Roland V-80HD

Roland V-80HD: room, remote audience, and recording

Plan HDMI, SDI, streaming, and local recording with V-80HD. Discuss corporate switching with defined destinations and audio with GLMedia.

Model and application

V-80HD is an HD switcher with direct streaming and card recording, not V-8HD or V-160HD. Check firmware, format, and encoding load before combining playback, SRT, streaming, and recording.

Connections and limits

Inputs
Four HDMI and four SDI; HDMI 3 and 4 accept 4K with downscaling and provide THRU connections. Accepting 4K does not mean 4K program; SDI formats depend on system format.
Destinations
Three HDMI, two SDI, USB-C STREAM, and DIRECT STREAM network. Define bus and audio per destination; THRU connectors are not extra program outputs. Prepare monitoring and specified power.
Recording
H.264 MP4 video on SDXC; recording bitrate follows streaming encoding. WAV audio and video recording are configured as distinct tasks. Do not assume camera ISO recording.

Preparation and troubleshooting

  1. List source/destination resolution, frame rate, cabling, and audio mixes. Start with one accepted source and save a useful configuration before changes.
  2. Define simultaneous tasks. Support permits Streaming & Recording with Video Player/SRT within limits: up to 1080/30p and a combined 20,000 Kbps budget depending on the tasks.
  3. Rehearse every destination, remote reception, and recorded file. Check sync, voices, graphic changes, and stopping or restarting tasks before admission.

Show use and alternatives

For a corporate event using HDMI/SDI sources, evaluate room presentation, remote delivery, and a local copy. Scope defines buses, audio, network, card, operator, and rehearsal using this model’s limits.

If the combination exceeds those limits, compare external decoding or recording, or a lower supported format. Start with audience needs, date, and location; formats and devices follow.

Frequently asked questions

Can Streaming & Recording and Video Player/SRT run simultaneously?

Yes, within limits. Support excludes combinations above 1080/30p or the combined 20,000 Kbps budget. LAN streaming and recording using the same encode do not double that bitrate; check the actual combination and version before the show.

Can I record without streaming?

Yes, support allows separate streaming, WAV, and MP4 controls in the corresponding mode. Test start, stop, and files with the intended card; a public broadcast is unnecessary.

What happens to SDI, USB, and recording when HDCP is enabled?

With HDCP on, the manufacturer states that SDI, USB STREAM, and DIRECT STREAM do not output audio/video. Check the compatible HDMI route and recording restrictions; removing HDCP to capture protected content is not offered.

Does accepting 4K mean UHD program delivery?

No. HDMI 3/4 downscale compatible sources to HD; THRU and program have different roles. Define a different UHD chain if required.

Can every output show an independent composition?

Bus assignment does not mean multiple independent switchers. Map the layers and images required at each output and verify against actual firmware.

Why does the room have audio but the video call does not?

Check the USB or network audio bus, device selection, mute, and call return. Test two-way conversation and destination listening, not only local meters.
