Canon CR-N500: remote panel coverage and IP reception
Choose CR-N500 positions, framing and control for conferences. Compare network video and receivers when problems occur.
Plan coverage and check the network branch
Identify the camera, not just the series
CR-N500 is a one-inch-sensor, 15x optical PTZ with HDMI, 3G-SDI and IP. Canon lists UHD30p and HD60p by interface, plus NDI HX2 and SRT. Verify the chosen route’s format and firmware.
A “500 Series” inventory description does not identify this unit. Confirm label, controller, power and accessories; do not transfer N300 physical USB mode to N500.
Case 11: panel wide shots and close-ups
Mark every seat, lectern and question area. From the camera position, test wide and farthest close-up with people seated and standing. Zoom ratio alone does not establish framing: compare distance, field of view and obstructions.
Assign presets and next-shot preparation. Rehearse opposite panel ends and someone crossing the speaker. Record focus and exposure of the actual program shot. If simultaneous views are missing, compare a coverage camera or operated position.
Define controller and compatible protocol using both manuals. Map support, power, video and control separately. The guide distinguishes N500/N300 focus controls; shared documentation does not make their procedures interchangeable.
Case 12: network video fails
Note absent discovery, listed source without picture or playback dropouts. Record protocol/variant, format and receiver version. Discovery does not establish decoding or control. Compare required functions against firmware and any additional application/license actually offered.
Compare one source on a known receiver, then the complete project with simultaneous cameras and destinations. Where a compatible physical route exists, compare the same scene to separate capture from IP transport. Retain time, load and a fault sample before changing multiple settings.
With IT, verify authorized routing, addressing, access and capacity on the failed path. Do not install software or change venue networking midshow as a test. Prepare an alternate output and rehearse who selects it, the covering shot and return to program.
Whole-system or partial integration inquiry
With approximate date, venue, participants and destinations, GLMedia can evaluate rental, purchase, installation, integration, configuration or operation. Identify existing switching/network providers and handoff. Scope can cover the required segment, accessories, staffing and tests before final plans; confirm availability and configuration in the proposal.
Does 15x guarantee a close-up from the back?
Test from the intended distance with the subject and room set. If reach falls short, compare another position or camera before confirming coverage.
Does an NDI source list establish usable video?
Check movement, audio and show load at reception. Keep a sample and separate discovery, playback and control.
How do we compare IP failure without changing the whole camera?
Retain settings and compare the same source on a known receiver and compatible physical path. Note protocol, format and time, then review the differing segment.
Can we book configuration of existing cameras only?
Yes. Identify units, versions, controller, receivers and network lead. Scope can focus on preparation and tests, with operation defined separately if requested.
