Show scenario
For a filmed entrance, we propose a gradual atmosphere test with the actual lighting, camera and HVAC. We will assess beam visibility and contrast without promising that one machine fills every venue.
We can assess rental, fluid, placement, control patch and an operator, with a rehearsal and a lighting alternative without atmosphere if the venue does not approve haze. Start with the date, venue and intended look.
Prepare the system
- Confirm venue approval, coordination with its fire-detection representative and performer/camera requirements.
- Verify the electrical variant and a grounded, protected circuit; open the case and observe the manual’s ventilation clearances.
- With power disconnected, inspect tank and hoses and confirm PHF5L; do not operate empty or with leaks.
- After warm-up, check local and DMX control, then rehearse the entrance and dissipation under actual ventilation.
Questions and solutions
Can I use any fluid labeled haze?
No. The manual requires CHAUVET-approved PHF5L for this model. Do not mix brands, fog fluids, oils or additives; check the container before filling.
Will the room be ready after 30 seconds?
That is the machine’s nominal warm-up, not the atmosphere distribution time. Results depend on room volume, ventilation, placement and effect level; rehearse in the actual venue.
Why does the fan run with no haze under DMX?
In the two-channel personality, channel 1 controls the fan and channel 2 the haze volume; values 0–5 do not activate those functions. Check both channels, address, warm-up and fluid before increasing output.
What should I check if output stops after refilling?
The manual describes low-fluid shutdown and possible air bubbles. Check level, submerged filter and unrestricted hoses. If the system ran empty, have a technician follow documented priming; do not force dry operation or open the housing.
Can haze trigger smoke detectors?
Yes, the manufacturer warns that it can. Obtain approval and coordinate with the venue’s responsible representative. If haze is prohibited, assess another lighting design; we do not recommend disabling detection or promise no alarms.
How can we avoid a washed-out camera image?
As a proposed rehearsal, compare low haze levels using the actual framing, backlight and exposure. Adjust haze and fan independently and record the approved cue. Consider no atmosphere when visible beams are unnecessary.
Precautions
- Do not touch the hot nozzle. Follow the manual’s minimum 50 cm clearance to adjacent surfaces and 1 m to flammable material; keep air intakes clear.
- Voltage is model-specific, not universal. Never connect to a dimmer; stop for leaks, damage or abnormal operation. Overhead installation requires an appropriate validated mounting system.
