Lighting and control

ETC ColorSource Spot Deep Blue

Identify the Deep Blue profile fixture, CPU and DMX mode; check how presets behave when data is lost.

Ask GLMedia about renting ETC ColorSource Spot Deep Blue for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.

Model and purpose

Manufacturer
ETC
Model
ETC ColorSource Spot Deep Blue
Variant
Original ColorSource Spot Deep Blue; red, green, indigo and lime
Power
100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz; powerCON In / Thru
Data
DMX/RDM on 5-pin XLR or RJ45 depending on version; no Ethernet
Environment
IP20, indoors; ambient 0–40 °C

An LED profile fixture for theater, stages and pattern projection, with optics selected for distance and coverage. Deep Blue replaces the Original array’s blue with indigo; the two gamuts differ. Distinguish this fixture from Spot V, Spot jr and Pearl.

Prepare your rental inquiry

Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.

You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.

Features and connections

Confirm a body with shutter barrel for fixed optics or a body configured for zoom/adapter. The lens tube is selected separately; do not assume the assembly’s accessories.

This family’s RJ45 data input carries DMX, not Art-Net or sACN. Check the actual fixture connectors and adapters before connecting.

The software version appears at startup. Firmware branch depends on CPU; a higher number from another ColorSource does not establish compatibility.

Prepare the system

  1. Select suitable support, lens and secondary retention. When mounting, keep the axis between yoke attachment points parallel to the ground.
  2. Prepare power links before energizing and use non-dimmable supply. Terminate the final DMX fixture with 120 ohm; it is not self-terminating.
  3. From the DMX address display, hold Mode for 3 seconds to view the mode. Change with Up/Down and confirm with Mode: timing out cancels the edit.

Questions and troubleshooting

Does only one color respond, or is there unexpected strobe?

Compare mode, address and map before changing the show.

  1. Isolate a fixture with a known source and cable. With nodes or room control, check which source delivers data to the DMX segment.
  2. In 5ch, intensity and strobe occupy channels 1 and 5. In dir, strobe moves to 6 and channel 4 controls indigo on Deep Blue.
  3. For a no-strobe test, the manual specifies DMX values 0 or 255 on its channel. Test away from the audience and check the map first to avoid accidental flashes.
Does a preset return when the console shuts down?

Presets can remain selected in the background while DMX takes priority.

  1. Without DMX, check for an active preset or sequence. The fixture plays it on data loss; with none selected, it blacks out and flashes the address.
  2. From Presets/Sequences, press Mode again to stop the selection and return to address. Do not re-record presets to resolve an accidental selection.
  3. Test the chain during preparation: a local selection can propagate to connected fixtures without DMX. Restore the source and check control recovery.
What should be checked before updating or comparing fixtures?

Identify compatible CPU, variant and software first.

  1. Record the startup version and CPU identification on the label. Use the official compatibility table rather than a recommendation for Spot V or jr.
  2. Match mode, optics and variant to the patch. In 1ch, control operates Preset 1 intensity; its content may have been re-recorded instead of retaining factory white.
  3. For CAL/Err or a persistent thermal error, record it and refer to ETC support. A generic update does not replace diagnosis or authorize opening the fixture.

Precautions

Terms on this page

DMX
A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
RDM
Management communication for querying or configuring compatible equipment over a compatible path.
Patch
Assignment of fixture, profile, address and universe in the control system.
Shutter
A fixture function opening or closing light output; distinct from the camera shutter.
