Event power planning
Single-phase and three-phase: what to ask the venue
“Three-phase is available” does not establish that an LED wall or control rack can use it. Request the handoff-point details and compare them with each item’s input requirements.
Identify the actual handoff point
- Request the documented system, line-to-line and, where applicable, line-to-neutral voltage, frequency, and availability of neutral and protective grounding conductors.
- Ask for event capacity allocated per circuit or phase, shared loads, protective devices and location. Building service capacity can differ from production’s allocation.
- Collect the venue diagram, power handoff contact, availability window and access conditions. Use that information to arrange verification with the provider.
Compare separate circuits with temporary distribution
Multiple single-phase loads can be served by a suitable three-phase system through distribution designed for the assembly. Circuit allocation and professional review are required; this does not turn a single-phase device into a three-phase load.
If the request exceeds documented capacity, compare load reduction or reorganization with another authorized supply. Do not improvise adapters or infer conductor functions from the number of poles.
What production can document
Send external photos of accessible labels, manuals and equipment locations without opening panels. Leave electrical verification and measurements to qualified personnel. Phase configuration does not replace voltage, frequency and protection checks.
Planning questions
Do three outlets mean three phases?
No. They may share a circuit or phase. Request documented circuit identification and capacity allocation.
Does single-phase equipment need a three-phase supply?
The manufacturer defines its input. A large equipment package may use three-phase distribution while each device retains its own input requirements.
Do more phases guarantee spare power?
No. Confirm the allocation and limits of each circuit, including the venue’s other loads.
Sources and scope
Technical reference documentation. Venue staff and a qualified professional review its application to the actual installation.
Before finalizing the supply, confirm venue and local authority requirements in the United States, or utility and local requirements for an event in Argentina. Confirm the actual site’s electrical configuration regardless of this guide’s language.
