Cam-Lok and Powerlock: identify the family and coding
A request for “Cam-Lok” or “Powerlock” still needs a manufacturer and variant. Clear records of both ends help avoid quoting a cable or accessory that only resembles the required item.
What to identify
Record brand, family, full part number, and marked function separately. Eaton Cam-Lok J and Phase 3 Powersafe are documented examples of distinct single-pole families; do not treat them as interchangeable.
For Powerlock-style references, also record the manufacturer’s Source or Drain designation where present. Male or female alone may be ambiguous because contact and insulator designations can differ.
Prepare your inquiry
- Exterior photos and exact reference markings; both ends without handling contacts.
- Function labels, color, coding, and panel or cable mounting format.
- Source and destination equipment, country, and documented supply details.
- Exact-part datasheet and manual, with provider confirmation of the proposed combination.
Limit this review to external identification of equipment taken out of service and secured de-energized by competent personnel. Do not open enclosures or handle contacts. Damage, a burning smell, or a protective-device trip calls for stopping use and requesting review; do not repeatedly reset it.
Alternatives to compare
Compare a documented assembly within a family with alternatives permitted by the system. A connector change requires reviewing the whole solution before quoting accessories.
Phase 3 distinguishes regional color coding. Resolve function through labels and documentation; a color match does not authorize a connection.
Technical questions
Are Cam-Lok and Powerlock two names for the same connector?
Do not use them interchangeably in an order. Provide manufacturer, series, and part numbers for both ends so the exact combination can be reviewed.
Does a blue connector always have the same function?
Do not generalize color between countries, families, or assemblies. Record the marked function and its documented correspondence.
Does a locking key mean it can be operated under load?
Do not infer that from the lock. Operating conditions depend on the exact manual and installation; this guide only prepares identification.
Can I order an adapter from a photo of one end?
Include the other end, the equipment being linked, and its supply data. One photo cannot define an adapter or validate the assembly.
Location and supply
Include the country, city, and venue. For the United States, request service details from the venue; for Argentina, obtain documentation for the local supply. Do not transfer voltage assumptions, color conventions, or requirements between countries. Installation review and commissioning require competent personnel under the applicable jurisdiction.
Sources and documentation
- Eaton — Cam-Lok J series — official connector family, not a specification for the complete distro.
- Phase 3 USA — Powersafe Single Pole Connectors — Powersafe manufacturer documentation; its data does not transfer to another brand.
Connector references help identify a family. A component’s rating does not establish the rating of the complete distribution unit.
