Event power planning

RCD and GFCI: function and information for the electrician

Residual-current protection detects an imbalance among the currents in the conductors it monitors. Event planning requires the exact device and load assembly to be identified.

Identify functions, not just abbreviations

RCD is a general term; U.S. GFCI documentation describes devices with specific requirements. Check the exact model’s thresholds, trip times and certifications before comparing alternatives. An RCCB alone does not provide overcurrent protection; an RCBO combines functions.

Residual-current protection does not remove every contact hazard or replace required grounding and other protection. Do not bypass it to prevent interruptions.

Information to send

Compare a complete solution

Request review of load grouping and protection suitable for the electronics and environment. Alternatives must meet local requirements; replacing a device with a less sensitive one is not an automatic fix.

Planning questions

Does tripping when several LED panels are connected prove the device is faulty?

No. Loads, leakage, installation and the device need review. Preserve observations without repeated resetting.

Does the TEST button verify the entire installation?

No. Its function is defined by the manual; it does not by itself establish grounding, wiring or every disconnection condition.

Is Type B RCD the same as a B-curve breaker?

No. The letter can describe different properties. Send the full reference to distinguish residual-current type from overcurrent trip curve.

Sources and scope

Technical reference documentation. Venue staff and a qualified professional review its application to the actual installation.

Before finalizing the supply, confirm venue and local authority requirements in the United States, or utility and local requirements for an event in Argentina. Confirm the actual site’s electrical configuration regardless of this guide’s language.
