Cables and breakouts
Socapex and breakouts: identify the whole assembly
A “Soca” label does not describe the entire run. Record the multicore, breakout, and each destination connector separately when preparing a proposal.
What to identify
Lex’s LSC19 catalog distinguishes cable and breakout assemblies with their own references and conditions. Do not transfer a connector component’s printed rating to the cable.
Keep output numbering with the breakout reference and documented source circuit. This mapping prepares a review; it is not a pinout for building or modifying cables.
Prepare your inquiry
- Multicore reference, identified length, and jacket markings.
- Photos of both ends and every breakout leg, with readable numbers.
- Documented map: source output → cable identification → leg → destination equipment.
- Assembly datasheet and available inspection history; record visible splices or repairs without opening them.
Limit this review to external identification of equipment taken out of service and secured de-energized by competent personnel. Do not open enclosures or handle contacts. Damage, a burning smell, or a protective-device trip calls for stopping use and requesting review; do not repeatedly reset it.
Alternatives to compare
Compare a documented multicore assembly with individual runs against destinations, route, and application. Load conditions require review for the actual assembly.
Technical questions
Does a continuity check establish load capacity?
No. Continuity does not replace documented characteristics and conditions or a review of material condition. No test procedure is proposed here.
What if breakout legs are not numbered?
Photograph and record available identification, then request mapping recovery through documentation and competent review. Do not assign circuits by the physical order of legs.
Will another company’s breakout work if the multipole connector matches?
Verify both references and assembly documentation first. Mechanical fit does not establish circuit mapping, ratings, or operating conditions.
Location and supply
Include the country, city, and venue. For the United States, request service details from the venue; for Argentina, obtain documentation for the local supply. Do not transfer voltage assumptions, color conventions, or requirements between countries. Installation review and commissioning require competent personnel under the applicable jurisdiction.
Sources and documentation
- Lex Products — LSC19, pp. 4–5, 8 — assembly references and conditions; confirm current documentation for the actual cable.
Connector references help identify a family. A component’s rating does not establish the rating of the complete distribution unit.
