NovaStar NovaPro UHD
NovaStar NovaPro UHD: preview, 4K inputs and image recovery
Checks for operating layers, tracing a missing input and saving the right configuration before changing an LED system.
Model and version
This guide covers NovaPro UHD and User Manual V1.2.0; it does not cover NovaPro UHD Jr or NovaPro HD. The unit is listed in the GLMedia catalog. Confirm configuration, location and availability for the event date.
Prepare the check
Confirm the front-panel model, firmware, input card and connector in use. Have the source format, LED map and a copy of the working configuration ready. Agree on a test window: sending a transition, test pattern or receiving-card configuration can change what the audience sees.
Operating questions
- The composition is in PVW, but the LED still shows the previous one. What is missing?
- Why does a computer output 4K while NovaPro UHD detects no picture?
- The screen is black or frozen. How do I separate an operating command from a fault?
- Does saving a preset preserve the map and let me recover the entire unit?
The composition is in PVW, but the LED still shows the previous one. What is missing?
First distinguish PVW, the preview, from PGM, the program output. In Switcher mode you prepare layers in PVW; CUT sends them to PGM without a transition and TAKE uses the configured effect. Before pressing either, check that the prepared composition is what you intend to show. Moving a composition from preview to program does not require changing the LED wiring.
If moving a layer changes the LED immediately, check PGM Edit: it allows direct editing of the output. To prepare the next content without touching the current output, return to PVW operation and check COPY/SWAP as well; with SWAP, the previous program composition returns to preview after the change. Rehearse that sequence before the event rather than using TAKE as a blind test during a presentation.
Why does a computer output 4K while NovaPro UHD detects no picture?
Read the connector label and the format the computer is actually sending. The unit’s HDMI inputs do not all have the same limit: the manual distinguishes HDMI 2.0 from HDMI 1.3 inputs. In Input Settings select the correct physical input; a configured input resolution does not prove that the adapter or cable is carrying that signal.
To isolate the problem, temporarily try a known 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz output, a suitable cable and a direct connection. If the picture appears, review the required format, port and each adapter before returning to 4K. Input Source Resolution changes require Apply; for SDI, the manual does not allow input resolution adjustment there, so correct the format at the source. If the test signal is also missing, investigate the input path before changing the cabinet map.
The screen is black or frozen. How do I separate an operating command from a fault?
Check Display Control and Black Out/FTB and Freeze states before restarting. A frozen picture may be a deliberate operator command rather than signal loss. Confirm what should be on program and return to Normal when appropriate. Then check that the layer is open and assigned to the input carrying video.
Outside the show, an internal test pattern checks the output path independently of the computer or camera. If it reaches the LED but the content does not, focus on source, layer and program. If the pattern is missing too, follow power, sending and cabling in the affected section; that result alone does not identify a failed receiving card. Remove the pattern after testing and check the program picture again.
Does saving a preset preserve the map and let me recover the entire unit?
Do not treat these saves as interchangeable. Save Preset stores a composition for later recall; Save to RV Card sends and stores the screen configuration in the receiving cards. Verify the map on the actual installation before storing it there: do not use that command just because you changed a video or moved a layer.
For a broader system copy, the manual provides USB Backup/Restore, including presets and screen and operating settings. Identify the backup by unit, installation and date; an old copy can also restore settings that no longer apply. Import on the preset page also clears the presets currently stored. Export them first and rehearse recovery outside the event, checking sources, mapping and program afterward.
Symptom and next check
| Symptom | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Correct PVW, previous PGM | Switcher mode and prepared composition | Review and use CUT or TAKE when appropriate. |
| 4K input has no picture | Connector, actual format and adapters | Isolate with a known signal before changing the map. |
| Black or frozen LED | Display Control, layer and input | Restore normal operation or test a pattern outside the show. |
| Configuration needs saving | Preset, receiving cards and USB backup | Choose the correct save and protect the working setup. |
