NovaStar TB1
NovaStar TB1: local playback, control and synchronization
Prepare the original TB1 for LED content playback. Keep control access, receiving-card output and playback synchronization between units separate.
Model and version
This guide covers the original TB1 in specifications V1.0.0, document NS120100174. Check the label and firmware: TB1-4G, TB2 and TB40 are different models. The catalog lists 10 units; confirm location and availability for the event date.
Prepare the check
Keep the working program and screen configuration. Identify each player, its control connection and the path from LEDOUT to the receiving cards. Test before the event with known content; if a change makes things worse, restore the previous state before proceeding.
Operating questions
Can I connect a camera or computer to the TB1 over HDMI?
The documented original TB1 has no HDMI input. It plays programs loaded onto the player; do not plan to feed it directly from a camera or computer desktop. If the event needs live video, specify a controller with a compatible input and verify the complete signal path before quoting.
For prerecorded content, prepare the program with a ViPlex version compatible with the unit and test publishing and playback. Seeing a connected device does not confirm that the latest content has arrived: check the file displayed on the screen and let a full cycle run. Do not change the LED map to resolve an unfinished content upload.
Why can ViPlex not find the TB1 while the screen is still playing?
Check the cable at ETHERNET, used for network access, and distinguish it from LEDOUT, which sends data to the screen. Try local access over cable or Wi-Fi AP and verify the unit identity. If local access works but remote access fails, investigate Internet connectivity and the remote service; that difference is not a reason to reconfigure receiving cards.
PWR, SYS and CLOUD report different states. In this revision, SYS flashing every two seconds means normal operation; every half-second means a data download. CLOUD does not confirm an image on the screen. If SYS stays on or off, check system status before editing content. Do not use RESET as a connection test: holding it for five seconds restores factory settings.
What does “synchronous display” mean without a live video input?
On the TB1 it means coordinated playback across units: the function must be enabled, clocks synchronized and the program identical. It does not add an HDMI input or provide camera genlock.
Compare the program and time on each unit first. If they differ, correct that before looking for an image fault. Then watch a complete cycle across the screens: if they drift apart, check clock synchronization. For tighter requirements, ask NovaStar about the synchronization module; do not assume an accessory is installed or promise accuracy you have not verified.
Can a 1080p file fill any 1920 × 1080 LED screen?
No. TB1 1080p decoding and the number of LED pixels it drives are separate limits. This specification allows up to 650,000 pixels, a maximum width of 1920 and a maximum height of 1080: all three limits apply together. A 1920 × 1080 screen has 2,073,600 pixels and exceeds the load.
Calculate resolution from each cabinet’s pixels and their arrangement. Check width, height, total and receiving-card configuration before loading the map. If the installation exceeds capacity, change the distribution or controller; lowering the file resolution does not reduce the screen’s physical pixels.
Symptom and next check
| Symptom | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Live camera required | The original TB1 has no HDMI IN | Choose a controller with the required input. |
| Screen plays but control is unavailable | ETHERNET or Wi-Fi AP, unit and SYS status | Separate local access from the remote service. |
| Screens drift out of sync | Program, clocks and synchronization function | Compare a full cycle before changing distribution. |
| Map exceeds capacity | Width, height and total pixels | Reconsider the controller or distribution. |
