Ultratec Radiance Hazer
Read the digital control mode, trace both DMX channels and follow the documented shutdown before diagnosing intermittent or unexpected haze.
Ask GLMedia about renting Ultratec Radiance Hazer for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.
Model and purpose
- Manufacturer
- Ultratec Special Effects
- Model
- Ultratec Radiance Hazer
- Scope
- Digital display revision; manual v.102020
- Supply variants
- CLF2460: 120 V, 4.5 A; CLF2464: 220–240 V, 2 A; 50/60 Hz; check nameplate
- Fluid / preparation
- Luminous 7 only; 2 L or 4 L jug; approximately 8 minutes warm-up
- Control
- 2 DMX channels: haze then fan; optional remote; standalone settings
A water-based hazer for an even atmospheric layer that reveals light beams. Haze rate and fan speed are different controls; the result also depends on room airflow. This guide follows the digital display revision and must not be applied unchanged to older mechanical address switches.
Prepare your rental inquiry
- Date, city, venue and setup, event and pickup schedule.
- Intended use, area dimensions and equipment already supplied by the venue or production.
- Effect type, duration and venue ventilation conditions.
- Approved consumable, venue permission and operation required in the proposal.
Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.
You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
Features and connections
DMX uses 5-pin XLR. Record the brief code revision shown at startup and inspect the actual supply label; these are separate voltage versions, not a universal input.
The optional Versa Fan connection is controlled with the internal fan. Use only the matching voltage accessory and documented connection. Prepare the specified support and have competent personnel assess mounting and secondary retention.
Prepare the system
- Fit the specified fluid jug, seat the pickup tube and keep its filter submerged. Check that the line is primed; stop if fluid cannot feed rather than repeatedly requesting haze.
- Provide grounded mains, dry conditions and free air circulation. Coordinate detection systems, visibility and exhaust with the venue; do not disable alarms independently.
- Start an attended low-output test. Read Ready and the selected mode before testing a console or remote; allow the full documented shutdown interval in the event schedule.
Questions and troubleshooting
The console or remote is ignored and haze starts by itself: which mode should I read?
Standalone overrides DMX and the hand remote. DMX in turn overrides the hand remote.
- Wake the sleeping display with a single key press and read it before pressing again; further presses change settings. Check whether the display is in the standalone range beginning with 6.
- For DMX or remote operation, select an address from 001–511. For an isolated remote test, remove valid DMX only after stopping commands and clearing the nozzle area.
- In standalone, the tens digit sets haze and the ones digit sets fan. Record both before changing them; the control code is not a console universe address.
Haze responds but fan control seems ineffective: what should I compare?
The fan retains a minimum speed, and its speed changes only while haze is being produced. Zero haze does not mean a stationary fan.
- Patch the selected address as haze and the following address as fan. Compare the raw output of both channels; the maximum starting address is 511.
- Once Ready is solid green, test limited haze with a controlled fan change. Distinguish lack of haze from lack of fan response before changing the profile.
- If using the matching optional Versa Fan, check its own documented controls and connection. Stop for a stalled or obstructed fan; disconnect power before external cleaning and refer internal work to service.
Output becomes intermittent or a puff appears at the next startup: what is a useful check?
Compare heat, fluid feed and the previous shutdown. These checks identify conditions to investigate; they do not prove a deposit or component failure.
- Read the green status: flashing means heating, solid means ready. A three-flash pattern with full fan indicates overtemperature; stop the test and follow the manual/service route.
- Compare pickup submersion, priming, received DMX and remote interval setting. A timer or lost fluid feed can resemble an irregular output fault.
- For normal shutdown, set haze output to 0 and leave the attended machine powered for 15 minutes before switching off. The manufacturer says this reduces residue and next-start fluid discharge; it does not eliminate maintenance.
Quick reference
| Control example | Haze | Fan |
|---|---|---|
| DMX start 001 | Channel 001 | Channel 002 |
| DMX start 511 | Channel 511 | Channel 512 |
| Standalone 612 | Step 1 | Step 2 |
Precautions
- Keep skin and hands at least 50 cm from the discharge nozzle; avoid directing continuous haze at nearby people or objects. Keep walkways visible and follow the venue’s stricter requirements.
- Use only the specified Luminous 7 fluid. A different hazer’s cleaning instructions do not establish a suitable procedure for Radiance; follow service documentation for the actual revision.
- After a suspected overvoltage connection, isolate and seek qualified assessment. A fuse with continuity does not establish that the machine is safe; do not bypass protection or keep trying power cycles.
