Lighting and control
Color and flicker for camera
Test skin, white and stability with actual cameras and scenes before the event.
Ask GLMedia about a lighting rental solution for your event, subject to availability and technical requirements.
Using this guide
Color temperature alone does not describe spectrum, tint or skin rendering. Camera, exposure and other sources also affect the result.
Prepare your rental inquiry
- Date, city, venue and setup, event and pickup schedule.
- Intended use, area dimensions and equipment already supplied by the venue or production.
- Visual goal and problem to solve; venue plan or identified photos if available.
- Decisions already agreed with venue, production and video to assess a suitable solution.
Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.
You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
Features and connections
PWM can create recorded bands or variation. Supported frequency and adjustment are model-specific; DMX is not the LED’s light frequency.
Prepare the system
- Agree on cameras, shutter, recording rate, exposure and neutral reference with video.
- Isolate sources and compare white, skin and clothing under each; record color mode, calibration and level.
- Record high and low levels and show transitions; inspect recorded material rather than eyes or a menu display alone.
Questions and troubleshooting
Same white but different skin?
Matching displayed temperature does not guarantee matching spectra.
- Compare isolated sources with common balance and exposure; check tint and calibrated mode where available.
- Adjust with video and save the approved mix; white balance cannot be promised to fix every spectrum.
Same values but different colors?
Direct and calibrated modes may behave differently.
- Confirm variant, profile, calibration and version on both fixtures.
- Test a color within their common gamut; saturated out-of-gamut colors may differ despite matching values.
Do bands appear when dimming?
Test modulation and camera interaction with a fixed scene.
- Check supported frequency modes and test with video. Documented ColorSource frequency adjustment uses RDM; do not assume another fixture has the same menu.
- Repeat for every camera and used level. If it occurs only with the LED wall, refer timing and processing to video.
Precautions
- Do not promise universal freedom from flicker based on a frequency number or commercial label.
- Changing shutter can alter motion and exposure; video must agree.
- Do not update or erase calibration during the show as a troubleshooting attempt.
Terms on this page
- DMX
- A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
- RDM
- Management communication for querying or configuring compatible equipment over a compatible path.
- PWM
- Modulation of LED output; interaction with a camera may produce recorded bands or variations.
- Shutter
- A fixture function opening or closing light output; distinct from the camera shutter.
