MDC Kendall: audio and video in divisible rooms R402/R403 and K413
At MDC Kendall, decide whether R402 and R403 will be open for one event or partitioned for two activities. That decision changes the audience plan, audio and video destinations, and the checks needed before doors open.
Which room, layout and reservation need confirmation?
Miami Dade College Kendall Campus is at 11011 SW 104 Street, Miami, Florida 33176. The postal address alone does not determine the installation authority: ask Campus Administration to identify institutional responsibility and applicable external reviews. Do not automatically apply City of Miami, MDC North or Koubek procedures.
R402/R403 is on the fourth floor of building R and can be partitioned for two events or opened as one room. K413 belongs to the Dante Fascell Conference Center; McCarthy Hall, Room 6120, is a different space. The plan and reservation must identify building, room, partition and layout, including the footprint of FOH, cameras and equipment.
| Space | Published area (ft²) | Banquet | Classroom with 6 ft tables | Theater |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| R402 | 1575 | 50 | 48 | 100 |
| R403 | 1610 | 50 | 48 | 100 |
| R402/R403 | 3185 | 120 | 84 | 200 |
| K413 | 2037 | 80 | 20 | 100 |
These figures describe published configurations, not an approved capacity for every installation. Request the accepted plan with aisles, exits and accessible positions; do not retain the maximum if a ground-supported screen, platform or camera occupies that space.
For internal use, the campus says Custodial Services Event Setup and/or Media Services must be requested after reservation approval. External groups use the external application and Campus Administration process. Reserving a room alone does not confirm setup, technician, equipment or permits.
How do you check that two events do not share audio?
Before closing the partition, agree with the technician on room mode: combined or divided, sources, microphones, speakers and controls assigned to each half. A movable partition does not establish acoustic isolation or independent routing. The page does not identify a processor or control-panel model for specifying particular buttons or scenes.
As a check to perform, prepare two distinct, recognizable signals. Activate only the source intended for R402 at a low initial level and check where it is heard; stop it and repeat with the R403 source. With the operator, check whether one half’s control changes the other and whether emergency announcements must remain common. Do not disconnect emergency systems to achieve independence.
If program audio is heard in the other half, distinguish sound from its speaker system from acoustic transmission through the partition. The technician must check routing and authorized controls for each zone; do not manipulate unidentified outputs. If sound crosses the partition after routing is correct, changing the patch does not guarantee acoustic isolation.
Save the initial state. If the required separation cannot be achieved, agree on a campus-compatible alternative: reduce sound demand, change schedules or use another accepted space. Restore the previously authorized mode with the operator; do not add an independent PA without review.
How do you assign monitors and projectors without crossing content?
The R402/03 page lists a podium, 4 TV monitors and 2 video projectors for that space; it does not say each half has that quantity. K413 lists a podium, 4 TV monitors and 1 projector. Confirm available destinations in the chosen mode and their assignments before preparing the patch.
Request control-panel, switcher, distribution and display models, input connections, accepted format, frame rate and audio path. Display count does not establish independent inputs, native resolution, file compatibility or videoconferencing capacity. Until those details are available, limit preparation to requirements and checks, without specific commands.
Prepare a labeled image for each room with a border, circle and corner text. Check source by source and destination by destination with the operator. Then check video audio and the agreed playback alternative.
| Observed result | What it distinguishes and how to continue |
|---|---|
| The source is correct but appears in the other room | Check assignment and combined/divided mode. Stop that content until the authorized destination is restored. |
| The computer shows an image but the destination does not | Follow output, cable, selected input and distribution. An image on the computer does not prove signal at its output connector. |
| The file is already cropped on the computer | Check source composition and output before changing the room system. If only one destination fails, compare its path and settings with the operator. |
| There is an image, but audio is absent or in another zone | Check audio destination, channel and room routing separately. Restore the accepted assignment if the change does not solve the problem. |
Record accepted connections and assignments. If switching from divided to combined mode, repeat the checks for all destinations; do not assume opening or closing the partition automatically changes routing. Keep a copy of the files and the playback alternative accepted by the campus.
What should be checked before moving equipment upstairs and adding a screen or structure?
For R402/R403, confirm the route to the fourth floor before dispatching cases. Request usable door dimensions, authorized elevator cab and capacity, turns, horizontal route, surface protection and loading window. The campus map locates buildings R, K and 6, but does not certify a loading route, available elevator or dock.
The K413 page publishes dimensions of 41 ft × 52 ft 8 in × 16 ft and an area of 2037 ft². Use the current plan to define usable footprint; do not treat the room as an unobstructed rectangle or its published height as a rigging capacity.
These pages publish no rigging points or allowable floor/support loads. Submit equipment, weight, reactions, footprint, ballast and protection for competent review before adding truss, hoists, LED, sound or lighting. Do not attach loads to the partition, ceiling or fixtures based on appearance.
For power, request voltage, available circuits, allowable demand, connectors, protection and authorized connection personnel. A podium, TVs or projectors do not establish spare power for visiting equipment. Do not prescribe adapters or connections without identifying equipment and distribution; if demand is not accepted, reduce the scope or use a reviewed alternative.
How do room reservation, technical review and effect permits differ?
Submit a scope separating space use, requested services and project reviews. The institution must confirm the approval path and authorities involved; acceptance of a reservation or rider does not replace the remaining reviews.
| Requirement | Check before execution |
|---|---|
| Authority | Identify structural, electrical, fire and effects reviews and inspections applicable to the specific project. |
| Institution and campus | Confirm room, layout, schedule, access, plan and services approved by the responsible departments. |
| Organizer | Align rider, schedule and simultaneous room use with the accepted scope. |
| Contract or service | Confirm crew, equipment, costs, insurance and possible exclusivities in writing; these cannot be inferred from a commercial inventory. |
| Technical recommendation | Prepare a plan, patch and signal-separation check. A check to perform is not a permit or an already evidenced test. |
For lasers, haze, smoke, cold sparks or pyrotechnics, identify model, location, operation and safety conditions for review. These pages publish no general authorization or model-specific procedures. Keep the effects-free version while acceptance and the applicable manual are missing; do not alter fire detection.
If the event moves to McCarthy Auditorium, Room 6120, repeat the review for that space. Its page states 274 seats expandable to 440 and a table showing 4450 ft²/440 in theater layout. Do not assume the expanded configuration is available or accepted; its booth, lighting and technical support are not transferable inventory for R402/R403 or K413.
What needs confirmation for crew, changes and handback?
Request the current external form and contracting conditions for the date, activity and room. Explicitly confirm whether ticket sales, recurring use or third-party equipment are accepted before committing. These room pages verify no general rate, technical deadline, insurance limit or union condition.
Define who opens the space, moves the partition, configures audio/video, connects equipment, reviews installation and receives handback. A Media Services or cleaning request does not establish all that staffing. Detail setup, checks, activity and removal in the schedule, with each service and cost accepted.
If layout, partition, audience, equipment, loads, power or effects change, revise plan, patch and scope with Campus Administration and technical departments before execution. If the change is not accepted, remove it or restore an earlier configuration that remains authorized.
At the end, remove additions within the agreed window and restore sources, destinations and levels with the operator. Return the partition and furniture only through the authorized procedure. Record handover condition and handback; the described checks must be performed with the campus, without assuming physical tests or permits already obtained.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add R402 and R403 capacities for the open room?
Use the combined-room row for the chosen layout: the page publishes 120 banquet, 84 classroom and 200 theater places. Do not automatically add the halves. The actual plan with FOH, cameras, aisles and accessibility must be accepted before setting audience numbers.
Does closing the partition automatically separate audio?
It does not establish that. Agree on divided mode with the technician and check one source at a time in each zone. If the program appears in the other half, distinguish routing from acoustic transmission through the partition. Preserve the initial state and agree on an alternative if the required separation is unavailable.
Does each half have four TVs and two projectors?
The page lists that equipment for R402/03 without assigning the full quantity to each half. Request the actual distribution and check every input and destination with labeled images. Display count does not establish independent inputs.
How should transport to R402/R403 be prepared?
Confirm the fourth-floor route: authorized elevator, capacity, cab, doors, turns, cases, weight and schedule. The building map does not certify the move. If a case is not accepted for that route, change its packaging, equipment or installation plan before shipment.
Does K413’s height authorize suspended lighting or LED?
No. A geometric dimension does not identify rigging points or capacity. Submit weights, reactions, support method and footprint for competent review. The pages provide no load ratings approving that hang or attachment to partitions or ceilings.
Does room approval include technician, cleaning and effects?
Do not assume inclusion. The campus separates internal reservation from Custodial Services Event Setup and/or Media Services; external groups must confirm their contracting arrangements. Define crew and equipment, and obtain applicable scope reviews. Reservation alone does not authorize effects or a visiting installation.
