Peacock Foundation Studio: grid, technical access and AV installation
Peacock Foundation Studio (PFS) is inside Arsht’s Ziff Ballet Opera House building at 1300 Biscayne Boulevard. The county’s official address record places it in the City of Miami, Miami-Dade. It is a rehearsal studio adaptable for events, distinct from Carnival Studio Theater and Peacock Education Center at Knight Concert Hall.
Define the studio and audience configuration
The rental page offers readings, exhibitions, small dance recitals, meetings and small ceremonies. It lists 4,080 ft² with different capacities by setup. Overlay stage, PA, screens, cameras, control, aisles and accessibility on the plan for venue acceptance; do not add production to a full advertised audience layout.
The Rev.7.3.25 packet lists PFS as 53 ft 7 in × 79 ft 9 in. Do not replace the advertised area with the product of those dimensions or assign a cause to the difference without a plan. Confirm usable dimensions and obstacles in the chosen configuration.
| PFS reference | What it helps prepare | What requires acceptance |
|---|---|---|
| Published 4,080 ft² | Preliminary event and equipment layout. | Usable area and plan with production, circulation and evacuation. |
| 200 banquet; 250 theater; 300 standing | Select an audience configuration. | Actual event capacity with its equipment and furniture. |
| 53 ft 7 in × 79 ft 9 in in Rev.7.3.25 | Compare the envelope with the current plan. | Usable dimensions, orientation and applicable revision. |
Grid height is not an allowable load
The PFS page in the packet describes a pipe grid at 33 ft 9 in. It publishes no point, span or total loads there for your installation. Submit complete LED, truss, motor, cable and accessory weights, distribution and proposed method. Do not select a pipe from available height or a photo.
Request the current PFS Ground Plan and acceptance of points and work access. Main-stage ZBOH counterweight lines and forestage points do not transfer to the studio. If hanging is not accepted, review a supported alternative with bases, reactions, ballast, floor protection and circulation; ground support alone does not establish approval.
Assign power and signals to PFS, not the main stage
The packet contains ZBOH power distribution, consoles and PA. Those lists do not confirm the studio’s supplies or equipment. Request voltage, phases, circuits, assigned power, protection, connectors and authorized personnel for connection, checks and removal. Prepare equipment demand and routes before connecting.
Agree on PFS-specific sources, destinations, formats, control, monitors and recording. Save the accepted configuration with the operator before rerouting. Check without an audience and at a low initial level; without exact models and versions, do not specify menus or connections.
| Check to perform | What to observe | How to continue |
|---|---|---|
| Pattern to the accepted projection or LED surface | Destination, framing, orientation and audience sightlines. | Distinguish incorrect routing from geometry or obstruction; correct and repeat. |
| Speech and playback to PA, monitors and recording | Signal at each assigned destination without feeding another by mistake. | Review the matrix with the operator; restore the previous patch if correction is not verified. |
| Response from each fixture in the accepted patch | Intended fixture, mode and control. | Stop the sequence if another destination responds; review assignment and restore the previous state. |
Use Stage Door and agree the final route to the studio
The Stage Door page explicitly names PFS: everyone working in or visiting the studio must check in with Security at NE 2nd Avenue and NE 14th Street, with identification and authorization. Prepare credentials, crew list and hours; room rental does not replace that check-in.
The packet places the dock on NE 14th Street and describes approach from NE 2nd Avenue heading east. The direct dock-to-stage push it describes does not establish a direct route to PFS. Confirm the final leg, doors, turns, level changes and freight lift if applicable, with case dimensions and weights.
The document states the venue owns no forklifts. Agree on unloading equipment and crew before dispatch. If a package will not fit the accepted route, revise packing or sequence within manufacturer limits; do not improvise another route through audience areas.
Reserve lift equipment and define who operates it
The packet states the Center has an IATSE agreement and describes ZBOH crew from Local 500. It requires house equipment to be operated by an Arsht department head or a stagehand designated by the Steward. Confirm PFS staffing, duties and contracted scope; bringing your own crew does not establish their permission to operate house equipment.
The lift list prints 40 ft for Genie AWP-40S, 25 ft for Genie GS-1930, 32 ft for Sky Jack SJIII4632 and 26 ft for Sky Jack SJIII3226. It states they are shared across the campus’s 3 performance venues and asks that availability and use be coordinated before load-in. These are heights in the list, not a machine selection: verify actual model, manual, reach, route and floor before choosing.
Confirm Fire Watch scope and effect permissions
The ZBOH packet’s Fire Safety section calls for City of Miami Fire Rescue inspectors for open flame, smoke, haze or pyrotechnics. It requests Fire Watch submission to Production no later than 2 weeks before the event and prints a 4-hour minimum at USD 70/h. Confirm PFS applicability, current procedure and rate; treat this as a packet condition, not an issued permit or universal municipal tariff.
Submit equipment, fluid or material, position, sequence and responsibility for the effect. Do not infer laser authorization from that section. Resolve venue and applicable authority conditions; without acceptance, retain a design without the effect. Do not interfere with detection or safety systems.
Separate room, production, insurance and project review
Facility Rentals states rental rates exclude event staffing, production labor and equipment; additional estimates depend on received requirements. It requires liability insurance for all rentals and scheduled site visits, with no walkups. Request the current contract, coverage, crew, prices, deadlines and included spaces for your date.
If audience, layout, points, supports, power, effects or schedule change, submit an identified revision and keep responses by scope. Preparation worksheet: not a reservation, permit, calculation or installation approval.
| Requirement type | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Authority | Jurisdiction, permits, inspections and Fire Watch scope for the work. |
| Venue | PFS, layout, capacity, loads, power, access and technical acceptance. |
| Organizer | Program, audience, content and coordination. |
| Contract | Insurance, crew, equipment, supervision, costs, hours and changes. |
| Technical recommendation | Current plan, weights, demand, patch, checks and backup. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the 300 capacity for a conference with a stage?
The page lists 300 standing, 250 theater and 200 banquet. Do not transfer one setup to another. Draw stage, audience, screens, control and circulation and request accepted capacity for that plan; if it does not fit, review layout or attendance before committing equipment.
Does the grid at 33 ft 9 in allow me to hang my LED screen?
Height confirms no loads. Submit complete weight, points, distribution and method for PFS-specific review. Do not use main-stage counterweight-line capacities. Without acceptance, redesign and also review loads for a supported alternative.
Can I use the power supplies and consoles in the ZBOH packet in the studio?
Their listing does not assign them to PFS. Request the circuits, equipment and operators included for your studio event. Compare demand, connectors, formats and destinations before connection; leave anything without accepted assignment pending.
Can cases travel directly from the dock to PFS?
The document describes direct stage access, not the route to the studio. Request the route, doors, turns, level changes and capacity for actual cases, plus Security check-in. Adjust dispatch if the route is not accepted or packages will not pass.
Are the listed lifts available with the rental?
Do not assume so. The packet states they are shared across 3 venues and requests coordination before load-in. Confirm machine, availability, operator, route and floor; verify actual model and manual before selecting reach or method.
Does requesting Fire Watch two weeks ahead authorize haze?
No. The 2-week reference is a packet deadline to submit the request to Production. Confirm PFS applicability and resolve effect acceptance, venue conditions and authority requirements. Without acceptance, retain the design without haze and do not alter safety systems.
Does room rental include AV equipment and crew?
Facility Rentals says rates exclude event staff, production and equipment. Request a quote and contract specifying PFS duties, crew, equipment, insurance, hours and supervision. Do not price the room as including those services.
Official documentation
The ZBOH Rev.7.3.25 packet includes PFS as another space. Preserve that scope: studio dimensions and grid transfer no main-stage loads, power or inventory. Request the current PFS Ground Plan and conditions for your date; auxiliary plans are consulted separately.
