Boulevard Heights, Hollywood: rooms, amphitheater and AV setup

A meeting in a room, a celebration in the hall and a show at the amphitheater need different scopes of work. At Boulevard Heights Community Center and Amphitheater, 6770 Garfield Street, City of Hollywood, Broward County, identify the exact space before planning the setup.

Choose the space before specifying equipment

The center lists three meeting rooms, a multipurpose hall, a reception area and a warming kitchen. Its published floor area covers the entire building: it cannot be used to calculate a room’s occupancy or floor load capacity.

The city listing describes meetings, concerts and events as possible uses. This does not authorize every layout, effect or suspended system. Venue rental arrangements and municipal permitting are separate steps.

Screens, structures and power: information still needed

The rental listing does not publish rigging points, load ratings, electrical distribution or a detailed AV inventory. Request information for the booked space before selecting equipment. Do not treat trees, decorative features or a roof as attachment points based on appearance.

Published rates, staffing and insurance

USD amounts shown in the city listing, checked on 18/10/2026; the listing does not give a rate effective date. Use these as references when requesting an updated quote, not as an event estimate. Damage deposits are described as refundable; confirm the refund conditions.

Meeting / conferenceUSD 30.16USD 100.00USD 26.42, during non-operating hours.
HallUSD 90.99USD 200.00USD 26.42, during non-operating hours.
AmphitheaterUSD 436.34USD 1000.00USD 42.49.

The listing states a 50% surcharge for non-Hollywood residents or businesses, a 30% discount for recognized nonprofit groups with a tax-exempt certificate, and a 50% surcharge on staff costs when overtime is incurred. Request the calculation in writing: the listing does not explain how these items combine. Additional amphitheater permit fees may also apply.

Standard table and chair setup and breakdown are included. This does not establish that sound, lighting, LED, operators or AV installation are included, nor does it override the specific notice that the amphitheater provides no seating. Agree on quantities and scope for the chosen space.

Rentals serving alcohol and contracted outside vendors providing onsite services must provide USD 1000000 in general liability insurance, naming “City of Hollywood, FL” as an additional insured. Ask which documents are accepted and who must submit them. Do not assume the organizer’s policy covers every vendor or that buying insurance authorizes alcohol service.

The listing does not establish an exclusive AV provider or union requirements for this setup. Confirm who may install, connect, operate and remove equipment, which city staff will be charged and what credentials the project requires.

Put access, seating and work hours in writing

The center lists regular weekend closure, with exceptions for rentals and special events. Do not treat public opening hours as a load-in, rehearsal or strike window. Agree on the start and finish of each task, staff access and which hours incur charges.

For the amphitheater, include audience chairs in the layout and budget. Indoors, confirm doorway dimensions, cart routes, floor protection and storage space. Advertised parking does not establish that a truck can reach the unloading point.

Advertised public Wi-Fi does not guarantee reserved bandwidth for streaming. If streaming or networked equipment control is needed, agree on the connection and testing. Check accessible routes, exits and occupancy for the actual layout, not just the general building description.

Permits, effects and outdoor work

Hollywood Fire Prevention lists activities requiring permits, including certain uses of fire, open flames or fireworks. Disclose haze, smoke, lasers or spark effects so the venue and authority can determine the applicable review; the venue listing does not authorize them. A marketing term such as “cold sparks” does not establish an exemption.

At the amphitheater, a description of an oak canopy does not identify an engineered roof or lightning shelter. As a safety recommendation, agree on weather monitoring, suspension, shelters and restart procedures. The National Weather Service warns that trees and small open shelters do not provide lightning protection. The setup’s wind limit must match its design and approved conditions.

Keep venue approval, municipal permits, organizer conditions and contracted services separate. None automatically replaces the others. The related ArtsPark guide expands on outdoor production coordination in Hollywood, but its rates and conditions do not carry over to Boulevard Heights.

From an inquiry to a confirmed scope

Submit the date, activity, space, expected attendance and preliminary layout to the rental team. For the amphitheater, follow the city’s Special Event Permitting process: a reservation starts a review and is not a final permit. Select the correct venue and activity type in the reservation system.

Request a written response covering the assigned space, layout and occupancy, hours, authorized setup, staffing, insurance, itemized price and inspection responsibilities. The city process includes documentation, departmental review, an agreement and payments before the final permit; a scheduled inspection is not a passed inspection.

If the stage, equipment, audience, hours or effects change, submit the revised layout and ask what needs renewed approval before proceeding. This is a coordination recommendation: the amendment process, deadlines and additional charges for this rental must be confirmed.

The venue and competent authorities are responsible for approving the space and project. This guide and preparation worksheet do not reserve dates, constitute a permit or certify loads or installations.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amphitheater include audience chairs?

No: its description says seating is not provided. Although the rental table mentions standard table and chair setup, request a specific agreement on supply, quantities and layout for the amphitheater.

Does an outside AV vendor need insurance?

The listing requires general liability insurance from contracted outside vendors providing services during a rental. Confirm the policy and documents each company must supply; do not assume the organizer’s insurance is sufficient.

Does a meeting room have the same permit requirement as the amphitheater?

The listing expressly requires a Special Events Permit for amphitheater rental. It does not, by itself, extend that requirement to every meeting in a room. Describe the activity and setup so the city can determine the applicable permits.

Does the staffing rate include a sound or lighting technician?

The table lists staff costs but does not identify AV operators or an included technical scope. Separate city staff, AV equipment and AV technicians in the budget and assigned responsibilities.
