Aputure STORM 80c: interviews and modifier changes
Evaluate compact light in a small room and repeat a consistent test when changing optics, diffusion or color.
Model and application
A tunable-color point source with Mini ProLock Bowens mount. A standard Bowens adapter does not establish that every modifier suits its weight, size or mounting. Confirm the exact package; STORM 80c is not STORM 1200x.
For a small-room interview, define framing, background and available space before choosing diffusion. Compare a compact key, bounce or independent face/background sources without promising window coverage from the fixture name or wattage.
Prepare your inquiry
- Send the date, venue, participant count, movement area and tentative duration. Photos and approximate dimensions are enough to start.
- Identify permitted mounting positions, cameras and existing lights, and what your production supplies.
- GLMedia can evaluate rental and alternatives, mounting, configuration and operation. Model, accessories, availability and scope require proposal confirmation.
Functions and connections
Evaluate AC-adapter power, batteries with the required accessories or compatible 100 W USB-C power. Do not assume any charger or battery will work.
The online manual distinguishes CIE Daylight and Blackbody under White Light Standard. Record this choice, output mode and color settings when comparing sources or modifiers.
Proposed preparation
- Identify unit, version, mount, accessories and proposed power. Prepare compatible support and cable routing without entering the shot or obstructing ventilation.
- With subject and camera in place, save exposure and balance references. Record distance, level, output mode, CCT, correction and white standard.
- Change only the modifier, disconnected and cool as required by applicable instructions. Check locking, support and clearance; repeat faces, background, shadows and reflections before compensating level.
- If color or exposure changes, repeat one condition at a time. Then test transitions and sound with the actual microphone and save the agreed scene.
Questions and troubleshooting
What should I request for a small-room interview?
A photo and approximate dimensions allow comparison of source, diffusion, bounce and background control; a chosen model is not required.
- Send date, venue, windows, schedule, cameras and support space. Test with the person and their glasses/clothing.
- GLMedia can evaluate the fixture, modifier, power, mounting, preparation or operation. Components and availability require confirmation.
Why does the image change with another diffuser?
A modifier can change useful light, spill and shadows. Isolate the difference before adjusting camera balance.
- Keep reference position and exposure, then repeat the recorded state with each compatible modifier. Check skin, clothing, background and reflections.
- Make necessary adjustments afterward and save the new combination. If space or light is insufficient, compare another size, position or source.
Does Silent retain maximum performance without noise?
STORM 80c support limits output to 20 W in Silent with the fan off. This is not AC consumption or a system-wide acoustic promise.
- Test light and sound for the planned duration with ventilation clear. Do not transfer another STORM’s Silent limit.
- GLMedia can evaluate another mode, position or source and agree on a camera/audio compromise before the event.
Precautions
- Use compatible mounts, adapters and accessories; verify each lock and support against manufacturer instructions. Do not improvise diffusion on hot surfaces.
- Review power, support and safety attachments for the actual package. Connectors and adapters also need suitable environmental conditions; head IP does not approve the whole system.
- Keep ventilation clear and record errors. Remove damaged or persistently protected units from service. Do not begin troubleshooting with show-time updates or resets.
