Barco R98017851 UST: support, LSM and focus on a G62
Identify the Barco R98017851 UST kit and support for a G62. Check back focus and image focus during installation, separately from operation with the lens secured.
Identify the equipment and installation stage
Confirm the projector, lens reference, LSM and accessories before assembly. The adjustment checks apply during installation: do not command lens movements when the UST is secured for operation.
Mounting kit and focus troubleshooting
Before installing a Barco R98017851 UST on a G62, how do I check that I have the correct module and support?
Identify the projector’s lens shift module, LSM 1 or LSM 2, and check the kit components before installing the lens. The UST requires its support and the accessories for that module. A lens fitting into the mount does not establish that the assembly is complete.
Barco identifies R98017851 as a G UST 0.36:1 WUXGA lens. The G62 manual lists that reference in section 2.7 and covers UST installation in chapter 7. This guide provides preliminary checks for an identified G62; it does not cover the 90° UST or establish which kit accompanies an individual lens.
- Record the projector model, serial number and firmware, lens reference and received components. With the projector switched off, compare the module with figures 7–5 and 7–6: LSM 1 has three screws on the boresight plate and a cable to the upper-left board; LSM 2 has four screws. Do not identify it from the chassis shape alone.
- Compare the lens support, brackets and fasteners with section 7.4. LSM 1 uses the UST boresight plate; LSM 2 uses the UST pogo pin adapter. Section 7.9 applies to G60/G62 with LSM 2. If a component is missing or the identification does not match, resolve that before starting installation. Do not combine parts from a different UST kit.
- Plan software preparation before mechanical assembly, as specified in section 7.5. UST Install → Start reduces brightness and performs calibration; it is not a harmless test with the lens already secured. The installer must follow section 7.6 for the exact configuration and disconnect power after that preparation.
- Check support clearance and ventilation as well. For ceiling installation with the UST support, section 7.10 requires at least 30 mm of clearance above the bottom air inlets. This clearance does not replace the projector’s other mounting requirements.
- Installation and adjustment require a qualified technician who can follow chapter 7 in full. If the module, adapter or support cannot be confirmed, leave the assembly uninstalled and record what is missing. Prepare an alternative for the event whose image and stability can be checked.
While setting up a Barco R98017851 UST on a G62, Zoom does not change image size and the center and corners will not focus together. What should I check?
During the UST adjustment stage in section 7.13.1, the Zoom keys adjust back focus; they do not provide optical zoom to change image size. Barco specifies No zoom for this lens. Alternate Zoom and Focus to balance sharpness between the center and corners.
This procedure applies to installation adjustment, with the support in the condition required by section 7.12. If the UST is already secured for operation, do not command lens movements: section 9.4 of the user guide prohibits them when the lens is fixed in Lens Support. Do not loosen the support during a show to try to recover focus.
- Before testing, record the installation stage and initial settings. Confirm a flat screen, a perpendicular projector and an assembly prepared according to chapter 7. Use an internal pattern with the remote’s Pattern key to separate optical focus from the input content.
- During that stage, with the beam path clear, use small Zoom key presses to sharpen the center, point 5 of the pattern. Then use Focus for the corners, points 1, 3, 7 and 9. Check the center again and repeat one press at a time: the manual warns that a single press can make a large difference.
- If the center improves while the corners become worse, record both observations and continue balancing back focus and focus. If no common setting works, check geometry, preparation and assembly before concluding that a motor has failed. Boresight is covered in section 7.13.2 and requires its full procedure; this check does not prescribe screw adjustments.
- When completing installation, follow section 7.13.3 to secure the support and fine-tune focus: fastening can shift the lens slightly. The manual specifies pressing Exit twice to restore brightness at the end of that procedure. Do not use that command as a substitute for completing the adjustment.
- Then check actual content in the intended operating state. If the pattern was sharp but the content remains blurred, record the input format and scaling. Keep observations by image area and the adjustments that helped. If the assembly is not stable and in focus, take it out of operation and review the installation before using it again.
Identify the module before selecting accessories
Comparison from G62 manual sections 7.3–7.4. Inspect with the projector switched off and compare the manufacturer’s illustrations.
| Module | Documented identification | Specific accessory |
|---|---|---|
| LSM 1 | Plate with three screws; cable to the upper-left board | UST lens boresight plate |
| LSM 2 | Plate with four screws | UST lens pogo pin adapter |
Checks during installation
Prepare the record before starting: model, firmware, lens reference, LSM, components and installation stage. Leave results blank until the checks have been performed.
Suggested test during adjustment: use an internal pattern, record center and corner sharpness after each key press, then check again after securing the support. Do not test movement with the UST secured for operation.
The manufacturer’s throw ratio does not establish installation geometry or the contents of the received kit. Check the LSM, support and accessories on the actual assembly.
This guide separates preliminary checks and optical adjustment from complete mechanical installation. Do not transfer the procedure to another UST or use it instead of the sequence and precautions in the applicable manual.
