Event power planning
Audio and video power: organize circuits and loads
Organizing power by function helps review capacity and the effects of an interruption. Agree on actual allocation with the electrical provider and venue.
Separate functions in the documents
- Identify amplifiers or powered speakers, displays, processing, playback, networking and control, with input ratings and locations.
- Record proposed circuits, shared loads, simultaneous operation, startup and equipment requiring continuity.
- Keep a signal diagram alongside the power schedule to record links between areas without confusing the two routes.
Compare organization and continuity
Compare documented existing circuits with suitable temporary distribution. Dedicated status needs confirmation: an informal label or different outlet does not prove independence.
Functional grouping can help coordination but does not guarantee noise-free operation or redundancy. Two circuits can share upstream power. A UPS for control and signal needs its own load, runtime and operating review.
If noise or a restart occurs
Record affected equipment, timing, circuit and signal or content changes. Do not automatically attribute hum to mains power. Both signal and power may need review; never remove protective grounding to eliminate noise.
Planning questions
Should all audio be on the same phase?
That cannot be a blanket rule without the actual system. Submit loads and interconnections for distribution and signal review.
Are two circuits a backup?
Not necessarily. Identify common dependencies and which failure the alternative is intended to cover.
Does a signal ground lift permit removing mains ground?
No. These are different functions. Retain electrical protection and use signal solutions only as supported by the exact equipment documentation.
Sources and scope
Technical reference documentation. Venue staff and a qualified professional review its application to the actual installation.
Before finalizing the supply, confirm venue and local authority requirements in the United States, or utility and local requirements for an event in Argentina. Confirm the actual site’s electrical configuration regardless of this guide’s language.
