Optical transport and troubleshooting
LED optical links: before and after the processor
Processor location determines what the fiber carries. First decide whether you need to bring video to the processor or extend its LED output data toward the screen.
Compare the two locations
With the processor near the screen, HDMI or SDI may need transport from the operator position. With the processor at FOH, its LED output link may need a compatible optical extension system. These are different functional paths.
Identify input, output and control
Record the video input format, optical output port, converter and receiving-card ports. The MCTRL4K manual distinguishes these functions; CVT4K specifications separate signal and control. Do not treat an LED output as a generic network connection because it uses RJ45 or fiber.
Review load and route together
Collect pixel dimensions, frame rate, color depth, used-port count and backup needs. Confirm capacity against the actual model, firmware and mode. Compare operator access, routes and shared active equipment before choosing the processing location.
Information for a link review
| Item | What to record | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Before the processor | HDMI/SDI format, source and input | Select video transport |
| After the processor | LED output, converter, modules and receiving cards | Select LED-system extension |
| Screen and operation | Port loads, map, location and backup | Check the assembly and operation |
Before approaching an optical connection
Do not look into optical ports or fiber ends, even when no light is visible. Inspection, cleaning and measurement require the manufacturer’s tools and procedures. If the assembly is hybrid and also carries power, identify the complete system and arrange work with qualified personnel.
Technical questions
Can any Ethernet converter serve LED outputs?
Check the documentation for support of the protocol and the exact controller/converter combination.
Does fiber increase pixel capacity?
Extending the route does not increase capacity by itself. Check the processor, operating mode and port limits.
Can I ask without a final screen map?
Yes. Provide intended size, content, operator location and approximate distances. Complete the map around selected equipment.
