Troubleshoot the optical link and missing outputs on a NovaStar CVT4K. Identify S/M, fiber, ports and indicators before changing the LED map.
Read the converter and optical module labels at both ends. Separate control ports from signal ports and confirm controller compatibility before changing connections.
Read the full converter designation and the optical module identification at both ends. An LC connector alone does not identify the required fiber or establish compatibility: distinguish CVT4K-S from CVT4K-M first.
The cited specifications cover CVT4K-S and CVT4K-M. S specifies dual-fiber OS1/OS2 single-mode, 9/125 µm and a 1310 nm module; M specifies dual-fiber OM3/OM4 multimode, 50/125 µm and an 850 nm module. If the label differs or the modules have been replaced, identify that combination before applying these values.
Check the OPT2 path first: both specifications assign it to signal ports 9–16. OPT1 corresponds to 1–8. Connecting only the OPT1 path does not check whether data reaches the second group.
OPT3 backs up OPT1, and OPT4 backs up OPT2. They are not two additional groups of eight outputs. The ETHERNET port in the CONTROL section connects a control computer; the type-B USB port is also for control and is not used to cascade converters.
This table summarizes page 3 of the cited specifications. Compare the values with the installed module labels and the route you plan to use.
| Variant | Fiber and connector | Documented module and distance |
|---|---|---|
| CVT4K-S | OS1/OS2 single-mode, two fibers; 9/125 µm; LC | 1310 nm; 10 km |
| CVT4K-M | OM3/OM4 multimode, two fibers; 50/125 µm; LC | 850 nm; 300 m |
Prepare a record for each end and port group. Note power, optical link, Ethernet link and data transmission states before changing a cable.
During the test, change one segment at a time and then check a recognizable image in both groups. The worksheet stays blank until actual observations are recorded.
This guide applies to CVT4K-S and CVT4K-M with the optical configuration described in their specifications. CVT4K without the suffix is insufficient to select fiber or modules.
The 10 km and 300 m figures are manufacturer-specified distances, not guarantees for a particular fiber route. Splices, adapters or different modules require checking their documentation and losses.
Use the models, firmware and documentation at both ends to configure redundancy and map the controller ports to the CVT4K ports.
Related guides and equipment are not a compatibility list. Check the model, firmware and modules at both ends.

To make the sketch useful during a change, record the exact controller output name and the CVT4K OPT port it reaches. Internal mapping of OPT1/OPT3 to 1–8 and OPT2/OPT4 to 9–16 is documented for S and M; obtain controller numbering from its own manual.
Add each used port’s destination, cabinet or first receiver, and the saved configuration reference. Mark unused and reserved connections. This distinguishes an intentionally unused output from a fault without changing the screen map.
Record whether primary and backup share a controller, CVT, power supply, panel or physical route. A second optical connection may address a link failure while still depending on the same equipment; it does not establish coverage for every system failure.
Prepare a test plan identifying the controller model and firmware, the specific failure to evaluate, what to observe in both groups and how to restore the configuration. Follow the manufacturer’s procedure for that assembly; check its switching behavior and record the observed times.
If available fiber does not match the variant, compare obtaining the correct route with selecting another documented controller/converter combination. Do not resolve the mismatch by replacing a module merely because it fits the slot.
You can start with label photos and an incomplete sketch. Identify confirmed information and missing items: remote endpoint, modules, ports or route. For added capacity, treat transport, controller ports and the planned load as whole-system requirements.
| Item | What to record | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Group 1–8 | Actual controller output → OPT1; backup route toward OPT3 | Record endpoints and destinations without assuming controller numbering |
| Group 9–16 | Actual controller output → OPT2; backup route toward OPT4 | Identify the second group and its specific check |
| Dependencies and acceptance | Shared equipment, power, failure to evaluate and picture evidence | Define backup coverage and what was actually checked |
Do not transfer instructions based on a similar name. Use documentation for the exact unit designation, revision and controller.
No. Control access and screen data transport are separate checks; record the OPT port, group and usable output too.
Record the failure evaluated, test conditions and results observed in both groups. If the test has not been performed, keep the document as a plan; a photo of two connected fibers only records those connections.
Ask about rental or purchase of an LED screen signal-link solution, or assistance with path preparation, configuration review and operation. Send the controller model, converter variant, optical modules, distance and planned signal path; label photos and a preliminary diagram are enough to start. System compatibility, required equipment, availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
