opticalCON DUO: identify the variant and event cable

The opticalCON DUO name is not enough to choose a cable. Identify the assembly and chassis connectors at both ends. This guide prepares the passive connection; transport operation depends on the equipment.

Choose the optical variant before planning the run

Neutrik describes opticalCON DUO with two fibers and multimode or single-mode PC/APC options. Record the full part number, length, and packaging. Do not transfer bend limits, termination, or environmental protection from another variant.

Prepare an identified cable assembly

  1. Measure the approved route and clearance for connector heads and protection.
  2. Check limits for the exact cable and reel; do not pull it by the plug.
  3. Label both ends and fiber mapping against the link documentation.
  4. Inspect housing, latch, and caps externally, without forcing shutters or disassembling for identification.
  5. Arrange inspection and cleaning under BDA 520 for the applicable variant. The manufacturer requires both ends disconnected for this task and warns of invisible radiation; never look into ports or fibers.
  6. Keep the assembly’s optical and functional check results before handover.

Setup questions

Does DUO mean two video signals?

It describes two physical fibers in the documented assembly. Signal or link count depends on the system, optics, and patch, not the name.

Will any LC patch lead work?

No. Confirm the chassis interface and required lead, including fiber, polish, and mapping. LC alone does not verify the link.

Does the automatic cover eliminate cleaning?

It does not replace condition checks. Use the variant’s specified procedure and tools; do not pry the mechanism open or clean blindly.
