Signal cabling
opticalCON QUAD: variant and physical fiber mapping
Four physical fibers in opticalCON QUAD do not automatically mean four independent signals. Their use depends on the system. Specify the exact cable assembly, chassis connectors, and endpoint map.
Separate cable identity from its role
Neutrik’s opticalCON QUAD data sheet identifies a mobile four-fiber assembly with optical variants. Confirm the full part number and polish of the offered assembly; do not choose from QUAD alone or from DUO specifications.
- Record manufacturer, part number, length, and fiber type.
- Identify both chassis connectors, couplers, and patch leads.
- Request documented mapping and destinations for all four positions.
- Compare with other solutions only after confirming the equipment ports.
Map fibers without assigning roles by position
Record physical position, end A, end B, agreed role, and check status. Record both ends of any spare fiber too. Do not change the patch by trial and error without updating the record.
- Measure the approved route and clearance for the protected connector.
- Check limits for the exact cable and reel; protect crossings and keep strain off ports.
- Check housing, caps, and latch externally. Do not force shutters or look into optical ports or ends.
- Arrange inspection and cleaning under the applicable QUAD procedure with compatible tools; do not transfer DUO tools by resemblance.
- Arrange checks of every used fiber and the intended system. Save results by ID and revision.
Setup questions
Can I put QUAD where DUO was used?
Do not assume so. Check interfaces and part numbers at both ends. Fiber count and family name do not establish mechanical or optical substitution.
Do four fibers always form two transmit/receive pairs?
Not necessarily. The device documentation defines use and mapping. Record all four positions before assigning functions.
Can a spare fiber remain unidentified?
Label both ends and its check status. Finding a free position does not establish a usable backup.
