Confirm Rio3224-D3, not D2 or Rio1608-D3. The console and control software must explicitly support D3. This rack supplies I/O and preamps; it does not replace the console’s mix buses.

Connections and required equipment

Microphone → analog input → Dante transmit → console subscription/input patch → mix bus → console Dante transmit → rack receive/output. Keep Dante PRIMARY/SECONDARY and the separate control network identified; a network socket is not an analog audio input.

Prepare the system

  1. Save the show and record compatible firmware, UNIT ID, startup mode and port mode.
  2. Follow the approved Dante topology and check link, sample rate and clock status before patching.
  3. With destinations protected, check one known microphone and one intended output, including mute and shared preamp ownership.

Questions and troubleshooting

Case: the console sees the rack, but the microphone is silent.

Discovery and HA control do not confirm the entire audio path.

  1. Compare rack input indication, Dante subscription and console input patch for the same source.
  2. Read the exact mute/status message. REFRESH with MUTE may be waiting for supported HA synchronization; restore that control path rather than forcing an unmuted startup.
  3. If rack input meters but the console does not, compare the subscription/patch; if a startup mute is indicated, resolve the documented synchronization condition first. Verify one agreed microphone through channel, bus and destination. Persistent status or sync errors require exact versions/messages for Yamaha support.
Case: the console channel works, but the stage output is silent.

Trace the return direction independently.

  1. Check mix-bus output assignment and console transmit to the intended rack receive channel.
  2. Compare rack output mute, destination/cable and local headphone monitoring; do not treat headphones as proof the physical output reaches the speaker.
  3. If the bus meters but the rack receive/output does not, the return route is the next check; if the rack output is present, continue to the destination. Verify the actual stage output at protected level; unresolved loss needs the full transmit/receive/output map for the system technician.
Case: a warning appears after changing the network.

Record the full message and indicator pattern before changing settings.

  1. Distinguish clock/rate, gigabit link, version mismatch and PRIMARY/SECONDARY warnings using the D3 status table.
  2. Compare the planned topology and compatible versions; schedule disruptive corrections outside the show, preserving the working configuration.
  3. A disappearing warning alone does not verify the audio route. After the documented correction, check status and repeat the same source/destination test. If it recurs, preserve the message and topology for Yamaha/network support instead of changing several settings together.
